Second-day UML meeting commences: 5 Province report submitted

KATHMANDU, May 12: The meeting of second day of the fifth meeting of the CPN-UML Central Committee has started. The second day's meeting started at the party central office in Chyasal. In Friday's meeting, the remaining reports of the five provinces will be presented under the Mission Grassroots campaign.

UML accepts MCC-Nepal compact through its political report

KATHMANDU, March 23: The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has accepted the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)-Nepal Compact. Earlier, while the ruling alliance ratified the MCC compact, the party had not stated its position. However, the political report of the party presented in the party's central committee meeting by Chairman KP Sharma Oli reads that the MCC compact has been ratified and it should now be implemented for the welfare of the nation. The report has also stressed a high flow of Foreign Direct Investments in the country for a prosperous development. KP Sharma Oli also maintained that the interpretive declaration issued by the government while ratifying the compact is meaningless.

HoR meeting put off till Sunday

KATHMANDU, March 2: A meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) has been scheduled for Sunday. After the government presented the annual report of the National Information Commission, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota maintained that the next HoR meeting will be held on March 6, Sunday. The main opposition party, CPN-UML, obstructed the meeting from the beginning of today’s meeting.

KATHMANDU, March 2: A meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) is currently underway at the federal parliament building in Kathmandu. This is the firast meeting of parliament after ratifying the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is scheduled to present the annual report of the National Information Commission. Likewise, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Prem Bahadur Ale is scheduled to present ‘Nepal Civil Aviation Authority Bill, 2076’. Meanwhile, the main opposition party, CPN-UML has obstructed the House proceedings.

Following UML obstruction, HoR meeting put off for Sunday (with photos)

KATHMANDU, Feb 18: Following the obstruction by the main opposition party, CPN-UML, the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting has been postponed for February 20 (Sunday). Soon after the Speaker of the House, Agni Prasad Sapkota began the House proceeding, the UML lawmakers began obstructing the House session, chanting slogans. Amid sloganeering UML lawmakers, Speaker Sapkota, granted permission to the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Dilendra Badu to present the report of the Indigenous Nationalities Commission (INC) on the behalf of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. The next meeting of parliament has been scheduled for 1 PM, Sunday.

HoR meeting today

KATHMANDU, October 28: A meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) is scheduled for today. The meeting is scheduled for 2 PM today, according to the Parliament Secretariat. According to Dr Bharat Raj Goutam, secretary general of the federal parliament, Prime Minister Sher Bhadaur Deuba will present an annual report of National Dalit Commission. Meanwhile, the main opposition party CPN (UML) has been obstructing the House Session. The government has not been able to hold discussions with the opposition party and run the meeting smoothly.

UML forms eight groups to discuss various proposals, reports

KATHMANDU: Main opposition CPN-UML has started panel discussions over various proposals and political documents tabled in the ongoing central committee meeting of the party.  Party leader Pradeep Gyawali tabled a political report on behalf of party Chairman KP Sharma Oli at the meeting that began on Friday. The meeting is being held at the Chyasal-based Tulsilal Memorial Academy in Lalitpur.  While General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel tabled an organizational report, Deputy General Secretary Bishnu Poudel floated the statute amendment proposal in Friday’s meeting.  As many as eight different groups have been formed to discuss three proposals and reports tabled before the ongoing central committee meeting of the party.  The next meeting, scheduled for 11 PM, Saturday, is expected to incorporate the suggestions from the panel discussions and endorse the proposals and reports.  The main opposition is holding its Statute Convention from October 1 to 3 in Godawari, Lalitpur.

UML Standing Committee endorses party statute amendment proposal

KATHMANDU, Aug 9: A Standing Committee meeting of the CPN-UML endorsed the party statute amendment proposal on Monday. Vice Chairperson Bamdev Gautam shared that the SC meeting decided to forward the proposal to the Central Committee meeting.  Earlier, a SC meeting also decided to organize the Statute Convention on September 12 and 13.  Sher Bahadur Tamang, secretary at party office, said that CC meeting scheduled for Monday afternoon would discuss the political report by Chairman KP Sharma Oli and organizational proposal tabled by  General Secretary Ishwor Pokharel.  UML is holding its CC meeting at the Tulsilal Memorial Academy later on Monday.

UML to seek clarification from eight leaders

KATHMANDU, April 20: The CPN (UML) 10th general convention organizing committee meeting held at Prime Minister's official Residence, Baluawtar today decided to seek clarification from eight UML leaders.  The meeting chaired by party chair KP Sharma Oli decided to ask for clarification from the party province lawmakers who crossed the party whip in Karnali province. The province assembly members including Prakash Jwala had violated the party whip and cast votes for chief minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi recently.   Similarly, the meeting has again asked for clarification from UML leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal, Bhim Rawal, Surendra Pandey and Ghanashyam Bhusal as their previous clarification was not satisfactory.    Chair Oli's political report and general secretary Ishwar Pokharel's organizational report were also submitted in the meeting.   The meeting has also formed a three-member taskforce to allocate the responsibility of central members. The task force comprises Bishnu Poudel, Shankar Pokharel and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi.  According to spokesperson Pradeep Gyawali, chair Oli's report has appealed to the party cadres to be ready for elections as it could be announced at any time as the restored House of Representatives (HoR)  was failing to stabilize the political crisis.   Similarly, the general secretary's report has also prepared a time table to restructure the party committee's activities.  Central members Bishnu Rijal, Til Kumar Menyangbo and Som Mishra also attended today's meeting. They were with the dissenting side led by Madhav Kumar Nepal and Jhalnath Khanal.   The committee will again meet again on April 23.
