KATHMANDU, June 16: The British government has decreased the assistance budget it has been providing to the public health sector of South Asian countries including Nepal as well as other countries at a time when the world is facing the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nepal in  need of emergency aid to combat coronavirus: WHO

KATHMANDU, May 15: The World Health Organization (WHO) has said that South Asian countries including Nepal are in need of emergency aids in a fight against a recent surge of coronavirus cases.  Spreading during a press statement organized in Geneva, Switzerland on Friday, the Director General of the WHO, Dr. Tedros Adhanom said that Nepal and other South Asian countries need emergency assistance to deal with the spiking coronavirus cases.  “India remains hugely concerning. But it’s not only India that has emergency needs,” he said, adding that  Nepal, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Egypt are just some of the countries that are dealing with spikes in cases and hospitalizations.    On the occasion, he also said that those countries are in heightened response mode and WHO will continue to provide support in all ways possible.  “Vaccine supply remains a key challenge, but this week I have been pleased to see leaders and manufacturers working to address some of these issues.”
