Actual net FDI inflow 36.2pc of total approval

The latest survey report on foreign direct investment (FDI) in Nepal published by the Nepal Rastra Bank indicates a significant gap in approved FDI and actual net FDI inflows in Nepal. Between 1995-96 and 2021-22, the total actual net FDI inflow stood at around 36.2 per cent of total FDI approval as per the survey report.

FDI inflow up by 66.3 per cent

Besides the rise in the inflow of FDI, number of firms registered for foreign investment also grew. According to the quarterly report of Department of Industry (DOI), 107 approvals have been sanctioned for the FDI. These approvals are expected to bring in Rs. 24 billion FDI.

Actual net FDI inflow 34.1pc of total approval

The recent trend of foreign direct investment (FDI) realisation shows that there is a huge gap between approved FDI and actual net FDI inflows in Nepal.

Central bank amends FDI rule, its prior approval not needed now

The central bank of Nepal has amended the rule about foreign direct investment in the country. As per the amendment, any company bringing in the FDI does not need to obtain its approval.

Gross FDI inflow up by 18.2, FDI stock down by 8.8 per cent

Gross Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) inflows rose by 18.2 per cent at the end FY 2018/19, amounting to Rs. 19.68 billion, according to the FDI survey report of Nepal Rastra Bank, 2021. However, total stock of FDI stock diminished by 8.8 per cent in 2018/19, shrinking to Rs. 182.92 billion.
