KATHMANDU, Jan 22: At least 268 health workers and doctors have been infected with COVID-19 in Gandaki Province in a period of three weeks, according to the Provincial Health Directorate.
Pokhara, the provincial capital, has most of the infection cases, said Nawaraj Sharma, coordinator of the provincial health emergency work operations centre under the Directorate.
“The number of health workers on the frontline against the infection contracting the virus has been increasing. Most of the infected are from Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences, infectious and communicable disease hospital and Beni Hospital,” he said.
The infected health workers include 138 (Kaski), 42 (Tanahun), 20 (Lamjung), 17 (Nawalparasi), 12 (Syangja), 11 (Baglung), 10 (Parbat), nine (Myagdi), six (Gorkha) and three (Mustang).
All the infected have been in home isolation and their health is normal, said the Directorate.
KATHMANDU, Jan 13: Five districts including those three in the Kathmandu Valley have reported more than 500 active cases of COVID-19.
According to the health ministry, along with Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts, Morang and Kaski, too, have over 500 active cases of infectious disease. Of them, Kathmandu district has the highest of 5,842 active cases.
There are a total of 8,396 active corona cases in the Kathmandu Valley alone as of Thursday afternoon.
Mugu district in western Nepal, however, reported not a single active COVID-19 case.
GANDAKI, June 15: Eight district presidents of Nepali Congress from Gandaki Province have demanded the province government to prioritize health sector in the forthcoming budget.
The district presidents and secretaries met with Chief Minister Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokhrel on Monday and stressed the need of guaranteeing vaccination against COVID-19, according NC spokesperson at Kaski, Nabin Sigdel. Similarly, most affected areas due to the pandemic could be other priorities, he added.
The budget should focus good governance, disaster management, relief distribution to the COVID-19 affected families, implementation of constitution, federalism and development, said NC president at Kaski, Krishna KC.
When CM Pokhrel was drawn attention on the facilities to be provided to the former CM, Pokhrel said no particular decision was made to this regard. CM Pokhrel was also wished successful tenure on the occasion.
POKHARA, Jan 15: Some 65 thousand citizens have registered their names for the Health Security Insurance (HSI) programme in a period of one year in Kaski. The programme was launched by the government last year.
