Toronto. The Liberal Party, led by Mark Carney, has secured a slim majority in Canada's House of Commons. The government's grip on power strengthened after winning at least two seats in the by-elections held on Monday.These victories come one year after Carney assumed the office of Prime Minister. In the interim, the ruling party's strength had also increased following the defection of five opposition MPs to the Liberal Party.The Liberal Party now holds 173 out of 343 seats.
