Nigeria: Toxic Fumes Kill 40 in Rivers State

Local authorities suspect that about 40 people died on Thursday morning due to toxic chemical fumes released from petroleum products in Rivers State, known for its oil wealth in Nigeria.According to Blessing Agabe, Police Spokesperson for Rivers State, who spoke to Xinhua via telephone, the incident occurred near a crude oil processing center site in the Okrika local government area.It is suspected that the victims inhaled a high concentration of dangerous gas.Agabe stated that police and local health and emergency officials have begun investigating the incident.
