Know the COVID-19 vaccination status of Nepal

KATHMANDU, Feb 20: At the time when Nepal is doing well with COVID-19 vaccination drive, children aged between 5 to 11 years old are yet to receive their vaccine. However, the government has already announced the vaccination for this age group. According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), as many as 8.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines will be required to fully vaccinate this population. Similarly, of 3,405,455 children aged between 12 to 17, 88 percent of this age group have received their first dose and 65 percent have been fully vaccinated against the disease. Likewise, the Health Ministry has urged people older than 18 years who had received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine six months ago to get booster shots. So far, as many as 867,845 people have received the COVID-19 booster doses in the country. How many doses of vaccine is Nepal expecting? According to Surendra Chaurasiya, chief of the supplies management department under the department of health service, as many as 4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine are in the pipeline with China. Likewise, 6.2 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines are in the process of shipment by Gavi and the COVAX facility. The government has set a target to have a fully vaccinated population older than 18 years by Mid-April, 2022. How many vaccines do we have in storage? The government has currently 8,265,000 doses of COVID-19 stored at the central and provincial level. What is COVID-19 vaccination status of Nepal? So far as many as 36,881,989 people have received COVID-19 vaccine in Nepal. Of them, 17,864,516 are fully vaccinated. Besides, as many as 8,349,628 people have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. As per this data, 60.5 percent of the total population of the country is fully vaccinated and 73.1 percent have received their first dose of the vaccine.

Nepal receives 1.3 million COVID vaccines donated by France and Italy

Kathmandu, Jan 27: Nepal on Wednesday received 1.3 million COVID-19 vaccines from France and Italy. Added to the 4.1 million vaccines sent by Germany, this brings the number of doses shared by EU member states to 5.4 million, half of the donated vaccines received in Nepal through the COVAX facility. The French government provided 685,400 doses of Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca) COVID-19 vaccine. Another 663,600 doses of Vaxzevria have been donated by Italy, one of the first countries to support the creation of a multilateral mechanism to counter the COVID-19 pandemic and among the major contributors to the COVAX facility, with more than 385 million euro and 45 million doses of vaccines. These donations are in addition to the medical equipment such as ventilators, masks, antigen test kits, spare parts for oxygen plants and the like donated by 14 EU Member States through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism when the second COVID wave hit Nepal in 2021.

Aircraft carrying COVID-19 vaccines from China fails to land at TIA

KATHMANDU: An aircraft of the Sichuan Airways arriving from China carrying a shipment of Vero Cell vaccines failed to land at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Monday morning due to adverse weather conditions. The airplane returned to China with the medical supplies given to Nepal under the COVAX facility. The supplies incorporating 121,887 doses of vaccines are assisted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Similarly, 1,870,500 doses of vaccines will be arriving from India on Monday itself. So far Nepal has imported 35,466,980 doses of COVID-19 vaccines and 21,654,109 vaccines have been administered.

Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines gets approval for emergency use among children in Nepal

KATHMANDU, September 12: The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has been granted approval for emergency use against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Nepal. The Department of Drugs Administrations (DDA) has granted the approval to administer Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines among childrens in Nepal. “The DDA has granted permission to distribute Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines through the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP),” said Narayan Prasad Dhakal, Director General of the department. “The government can now procure the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines and administer it among childrens.” The government has begun preparations to administer Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines to children who are more than 12 years old. Nepal is scheduled to receive 100,000 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines in a few days through the COVAX facility. So far, along with the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, Covishield, Vero Cell, J & J and Astrazeneca vaccines have been given approval for emergency use against COVID-19. (With inputs from Annapurna Post)

Vaccines from US to reach Nepal on Monday

WASHINGTON DC, July 11: The 1.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to be provided by the US government under the COVAX facility are to reach Nepal on Monday morning. The vaccines are being delivered from Brussels by the Johnson & Johnson company of the USA. Nepali Ambassador to the US Dr Yubaraj Khatiwada said that this support from the USA in times of a pandemic is very significant. Talking to RSS, Dr Khatiwada said the US President had in his response to a letter from President Bidya Devi Bhandari said that the US would provide maximum possible support to Nepal. He had also said that the US government would implement the decision of the G7 meeting on vaccines. The G7 meeting recently had decided to accord high priority to the worldwide distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. Maryland General Assembly legislature Harry Bhandary, who has been coordinating efforts to provide Nepal vaccines through US federal people's representatives, said the US government has always been giving priority to Nepal in every support. "Our first effort of continuous coordination through the people's representatives has become successful," he said. Nepal is also making efforts to procure more vaccines from the US, but many companies have said new contracts cannot be reached until 2021.
