Karnali CM Shahi to go for floor test on Nov 30

KATHMANDU: The newly-appointed Chief Minister of Karnali province, Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, is seeking a vote of confidence in the Karnali  Province Assembly.  Province Chief Tilak Pariyar has summoned a session of the Province Assembly at 1PM on November 30 for this purpose, the Karnali Province Assembly Secretariat stated in a press release.  The Secretariat said all members in the Province Assembly have been notified to be physically present in the meeting. Shahi was appointed the Chief Minister on November 2.

New governors recommended in Province 1, Karnali and Sudur Paschim

KATHMANDU: Government has recommended new province chiefs in three provinces.  A Cabinet meeting held on Monday picked new governors in Province 1, Karnali and Sudur Paschim provinces.  With recent reshuffles, Parshuram Khapung has been named as the chief of Province 1. Similarly, Tilak Pariyar has been picked as the governor of Karnali and Devraj Joshi of Sudur Paschim Province.  Their names have been recommended to President Bidya Devi Bhandari, a minister told Ratopati on Tuesday.

Karnali govt introduces budget thru ordinance

KARNALI, July 16: The Karnali Province government has unveiled the new budget for the fiscal year 2021/22 through an ordinance as the budget could be endorsed from the Province Assembly. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held  on Thursday night recommended two ordinances to the Province Chief relating to the budget. On the recommendation of the government, Province Chief Govinda Prasad Kalauni issued 'Karnali Province Appropriation Ordinance, 2021' and 'Karnali Province Economic Ordinance, 2021' on Thursday night, the Office of the Province Chief said.  In a statement released from the Secretary of Office of the Province Chief Thakur Prasad Sigdel stated that those two ordinances were issued from the Province Chief in accordance to Article 202 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal. Despite the Province Government tabled its budget of Rs 36.54 billion on June 15, the Province Assembly meeting could not held following the obstruction from the main opposition CPN-UML.  Meanwhile, Internal Affairs and Law Minister of Karnali Province Sita Nepali said that the Province Government was obliged to opt for ordinance to bring its budget due to the province assembly obstruction from the main opposition CPN-UML.   Prior to this, the Province Government ended the budget session of from last midnight. After the issuance of the ordinances, the Province Government has received legal authority to implement the new budget for the fiscal year 2078/079.

Policies, programs of Karnali, Gandaki endorsed

KATHMANDU, June 15: Karnali Province Assembly has endorsed the policies and programs of the province for the fiscal year 2021/22. During a meeting of the assembly on Tuesday, Speaker Raj Bahadur Shahi announced that the policies and programs were passed through the majority of votes.  The policies and programs were presented by Province Chief Govinda Kalauni on Monday.  Meanwhile, the programs and policies introduced by the Gandaki Province Government were also endorsed on Tuesday itself. The policies and programs tabled by Province Chief Sita Kumari Poudel were seconded by the majority of province assembly members.  Annual budgets for FY 2021/22 are being presented at meetings of both the assembly meetings starting 4 PM on Tuesday.

Budget session of Karnali Province Assembly begins today

KARNALI,June 7: Budget session of Karnali Province Assembly has begun from today. The session started at 2 pm which focus on the provincial government’s budget, policies and programmes for the next fiscal year, 2021/22 and the control of COVID-19 pandemic, it has been said.  In the meeting, a letter relating to a session calling from chief of the province, new appointment, reshuffle and work allocation at the Cabinet will be read out, according to the Province Assembly Secretary Jibaraj Budhathoki.  Participating political leaders will put their views on current issues, he said.  All party meeting held on Thursday on the initiatives of Speaker Raj Bahadur Shahi had urged the provincial government to call a budget session at the earliest. The provincial government shall present budget on June 15 and government’s policies and programmes at least one week ago at a Province Assembly meeting, according to the constitutional provisions.

Karnali CM instructs for timely completion of Khulalu Bridge

KARNALI, May 31: Karnali Province Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi has instructed to complete the construction of motorable Khulalu Bridge on time.  Inspecting the under-construction bridge at Khulalu under the Karnali Corridor on Sunday, CM Shahi directed to construct the two-lane motorable bridge at the earliest.  The Karnali Province government has allocated Rs 1.2 billion for the Khulalu Bridge which connects Surkhet to Khulalu in Kalikot district.  Although the construction work was expedited prior to the outbreak of second wave of COVID-19, following the outbreak, the construction process had hit a snag, informed chief personal secretary to the chief minister, Krishna Prasad Acharya.  Also, an engineer’s demise and another employee’s death also had caused delay in the construction of the Bridge which is considered to be a lifeline to the Karnali Province, said Acharya.  The bridge over the Karnali River will link Shuvakalika Rural Municipality in Kalikot district to Naraharinath Rural Municipality in Karnali district. Furthermore, Surkhet district will be connected to Humla district through road link.  CM Shahi on Monday took stock of the COVID-19 response efforts in the Province in a meeting with the District Crisis Management Committee, Kalikot and instructed the staffers to actively work to prevent, control the pandemic and to treat the infected ones, informed Acharya.
