KATHMANDU, June 24: Senior advocate Raman Shresha has urged the Supreme Court (SC) to issue an order to appoint Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba the new prime minister and call a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR).
Participating in a debate in favor of the writ petitioners against the dissolution of the lower house of parliament, Shreshta argued that the parliamentarians can prevent the House from being dissolved by providing a basis for a new government as per Article 76 (5).
He said that the lawmakers have a right to act independently when it comes to new government formation as per Article 76 (5).
During his 50-minute pleading at the constitutional bench headed by the Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR, he also requested the apex court to interpret clearly about the powers and authorities of the prime minister and president.

The five-member constitutional bench is hearing the writ petitions registered by more than two dozen individuals including the NC President Deuba, demanding the restoration of the HoR which was dissolved on May 22.
