KATHMANDU, Jan 11: President Bidya Devi Bhandari said that we all were responsible to usher our country in the path of progress, which was built by the sacrifice of our brave ancestors.  In a message on the occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of the country's founding father King Prithivi Narayan Shah, also National Unity Day, President Bhandari paid heartfelt tributes towards late King Shah. Extending best wishes to all Nepalis sisters and brothers at home and abroad on the National Unity Day, Bhandari expressed her confidence that the day would encourage us all to fulfill the national aspiration of the 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali' as well as to keep the national sovereignty, national unity intact. The National Unity Day is observed in honour of late King Shah who unified various principalities and founded modern Nepal some 250 years ago. She also asserted that Nepal always remained a sovereign country due to the glorious contribution of the patriotic forefathers. “History had it that the then king of Gorkha, Prithivi Narayan Shah, had contributed hugely in unifying the country geographically and emotionally. The purpose of the unification was to build a strong country with an independent economy by exploiting the natural resources and heritages available.”  President Bhandari also maintained that the unification bid of Nepal had laid a basis to forge stronger national unity by conserving the unique cultures, languages and traditions of the country. "The insightful suggestions and messages given by Prithivi Narayan Shah surrounding social, economical and foreign policies are still relevant." She said that we could ensure socio-economic transformation of the country if we move ahead acknowledging and applying the suggestions offered by far-sighted Prithivi Narayan Shah, the major actor of the unification bid.

Chhath festival strengthens national unity: President Bhandari

KATHMANDU, November 10: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has extended best wishes to all the Nepalis at home and abroad on the occasion of Chhath festival. She has wished for peace and prosperity.  In her congratulatory message, President Bhandari said that in geographically, socially and culturally diverse society like Nepal, festival like Chhat further bolsters mutual unity, goodwill and brotherhood thereby further strengthening national amity. It is believed that by observing the fasting on the Chhath festival, devotees are granted with their wishes. The festival is dedicated to the Sun God, with offerings made to the rising and setting Sun. It is observed by worshipping the rising and setting sun. The festival which is observed as a common cultural symbol in Terai has expanded across hilly and mountainous areas lately.

President Bhandari inaugurates war museum

KATHMANDU, July 28: The Nepal Army-initiated construction of a war museum has come to a final shape.  President Bidya Devi Bhandari has inaugurated the museum today. Nepal Army had constructed the museum building at the cost of around Rs 70 million.  A contract was signed with New Dragon Siddhagadhi JV Koteshwor for the construction of a war museum. The design was developed by Architechnic Development. Likewise, the interior design and decoration was made by Dhulikhel-based Alternate Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. The museum has displayed portraits of the war-time characters, timeline of Sindhuli Gadhi war, warfare from the military lens, documentary of Sindhuli Gadhi war, pictures of phase-wise war, domestic weapons used in the then wars, war-time arms, arms and ammunitions used by British troops, Nepali warriors, British warriors, painting of Nepali warriors, Mithila art, monument built before the names of British warriors, wartime stone carvings and historical documents. A library has also been set up as part of the museum.  The construction of the war museum was initiated in January 2019 A.D.at Sindhuligadhi, a historical site carrying the legacy of the defeat of the British army during the unification of Nepal According to knowledgeable people, Gorkha troops under the command of Banshu Gurung had defeated the well-equipped British troops led by Captain George Kinloch  infamous Sindhuligadhi battle in 1767 AD.
