Ex Lieutenant General Bala Nanda Sharma to take charge of CCMC

KATHMANDU, May 25: The government has appointed retired Lieutenant General of the Nepal Army (NA), Bala Nanda Sharma as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC). A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday evening made a decision into this effect. A Health Emergency Ordinance issued by the government earlier this week made some changes in the structure of the CCMC and with a provision of a CEO to take charge of the high-level body to tackle the coronavirus pandemic . Sharma was appointed the CEO under the same provision of the ordinance. Earlier, CCMC was led by Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel. Pokharel will now remain as the member of a steering committee led by Prime Minister KP Oli. The committee will include eight Cabinet ministers and the chief secretary.

Maoist demands to scrap CCMC, to submit memorandum to PM on Friday

KATHMANDU, May 20: The CPN (Maoist Center) is preparing to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli incorporating its suggestions to the government for the prevention, treatment and control of the coronavirus disease. A meeting of the party’s Standing Committee held on Thursday decided to hand over a memorandum to Prime Minister Oli demanding the dissolution of COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC), according to Maoist leader and former minister, Barshaman Pun. "Today’s meeting decided to hand over a memorandum to the Prime Minister on Friday regarding the efforts to be made by the government to control COVID-19," Pun told Ratopati. "The CCMC should be scrapped as it proved to be non-functional” Pun said, adding that a separate entity of Disaster Management Authority should be formed and be led by the Prime Minister. Similarly, the Maoist center also demanded the government form an all-party mechanism under the leadership of the Prime Minister to control the pandemic.

KATHMANDU, April 25: COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) has decided to recommend to the government to postpone all the scheduled and ongoing examinations of all levels effective from Monday. A meeting of the CCMC held on Sunday took a decision to this effect. According to a source at the CCMC, no decision was taken regarding the postponement of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) of grade ten which is scheduled to be held from May 27 later this.
