Odd-even rule for vehicles in Kathmandu Valley from Friday midnight

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: The district administration offices (DAOs) in the Kathmandu Valley – Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur -- have decided to enforce the odd-even rule for the vehicles effective from Friday midnight.  According to Ghanashyam Upadhyaya, CDO of Lalitpur district, private and public vehicles will have to operate on an odd-even basis in view of the surging coronavirus cases in recent days.  The new rule allows vehicles with odd number plates to ply on odd days and vice versa.  Public vehicles have to abide by public health protocol to contain the further spread of infectious diseases.  The odd-even rule, however, will not be applicable to the vehicles offering emergency services. Such vehicles include ambulances, hearses, fire brigades and those carrying medical equipment, petroleum products and other emergency goods.
