Nepal buying 2 million Vero Cell Covid-19 vaccines from China
After failing to receive one million doses of the purchased Covishield Covid-19 vaccines from India on time, Nepal has launched another initiative to buy two million Vero Cell Covid-19 vaccines from China.
Country so far has received 39,203,927 doses of various Covid-19 vaccines—Vero Cell, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Janssenand Pfizer-BioNTech. WHO has only recommended additional dose as part of primary protection for vulnerable groups.
A Sichuan Airlines plane carrying over 1.2 million Vero Cell doses which had returned to China after failing to land in Kathmandu in the morning returned with the vaccine later in the afternoon.
Various political parties, business entrepreneurs and local residents have protested against Birtamod Municipality’s mismanagement of Covid-19 vaccines.
Nepal has received 800,000 doses of Vero Cell Covid-19 vaccines from China as a grant on Tuesday. This is the first lot of the one million doses that Chinese President Xi Jinping announced to give to Nepal last week.
