RUPANDEHI: CPN-UML leader Thakur Gaire has secured victory in Palpa Constituency-2. Even though the counting of votes is still going on, Gaire is leading with a huge margin of 4,293 votes. His closest contender Unified Socialist’s Som Prasad Pandey has garnered 22,995 votes while Gaire has secured 27,288 votes so far.

Nepal will return to CPN (UML): leader Bhattarai

POKHARA, September 17: CPN (UML) Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has argued that Madhav Kumar Nepal, who has formed a new party after a split from the CPN (UML), would return to the mother party.  At a press meet organised by Kaski chapter of Press Chautari Nepal at Pokhara today, leader Bhattarai said, "We signed the 10-point agreement in presence of Nepal. But he split the party without holding adequate discussion in the party. It is not good. I urge other cadres not to join the CPN (Unified Socialist)."  He expressed the belief that a new generation would get leadership once the age limit of 70 years is implemented for holding executive posts of the party.  Leader Bhattarai opined that it was necessary to bring out the official opinion of the government on the issue of MCC.  He clarified that he would stand against the mass media bill tabled by Gandaki province government as it would restrict the independent journalism.

UML leader Khatri passes away

BHAKTAPUR, May 17: Litterateur Ganesh Bahadur Khatri has passed away today. He was 86. He died at Everest Nursing Home in Kathmandu.  The CPN (UML) leader was born in the Nepali month of Jestha 10, 1992 BS at Nankhel in Suryabinayak Municipality-9. Started the political career with the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, he later joined the CPN (UML) and served the party for the past 20 years. He lost the elections to the House of Representatives. He fielded his candidacy from Bhaktapur constituency 2 from the UML.  The UML leader also served to the society. He contributed to the construction of many temples, roads, bridges and schools in Bhaktapur. He was founding chairperson of a local weekly newspaper, ‘Samaya Samaj’.   Khatri has also authored many works including Janajagaran (a collection of essays), ‘Rogko Ghar’ and ‘Barulo’ and ‘Mahuri’ (a collection of child stories), ‘Ae Bau Ghar Chhodi Jau’ (a collection of lyrical poems) and Paribartit Paila (drama). He is survived by four sons and three daughters.

KATHMANDU, May 12: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Parbat Gurung, has paid last respects to CPN (UML) leader and member of the Bagmati Province Assembly, the late Pashupati Chaulagain. Minister Gurung went to the Manamohan Memorial Hospital this morning and paid his tribute by draping Chaulagain's mortal remains with the national flag. Similarly, the CPN (UML) Disciplinary Commission chair Amrit Kumar Bohara extended final respects by laying the party flag over the late leader's body.  Leader Chaulagain passed away due to COVID-19 on Tuesday night.  He was the CPN (UML) politburo member and was elected the member of the Bagmati Province Assembly from Dolakha 'Kha' constituency. He was elected to the member of House of Representatives in the gneral election of 2056 BS from Dolakha constituency no 1. Chaulagain was also elected the Member of Parliament on the proportional representation quota in the Constituent Assembly election of 2070 BS. He was actively involved in politics from his student days and was a sincere and dedicated leader. CPN (UML) Bagmati Province Organisation president Ananda Prasad Pokharel said the whole nation, not to mention Dolakha district, has suffered an irreparable loss in the demise of leader Chaulagain. Chaulagain's last rites performed  Meanwhile, the last rites of CPN(UML) leader and Bagmati Province Assembly member Chaulagain have been performed at Pashupati Aryaghat. Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa 'Badal', Minister Gurung, leader Pokharel, party office secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang, Bagmati Province Assembly member Rachana Khadka, among theparty leaders and cadres, were at the Aryaghat to pay their final respects to Chaulagain.
