NBA to hold march-past from SC to Baluwatar

KATHMANDU: Nepal Bar Association (NBA), an umbrella organization of legal practitioners, is preparing to hold a march-past from the Supreme Court (SC) in Ram Shah Path to Baluwatar.  The march-past will be held at 2 PM on Thursday as an attempt to pressurize the government and political parties to impeach Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana. The association has been staging protest demonstrations for the past one month demanding the resignation of Chief Justice Rana as the latter was embodied in multiple controversies. Rana’s ‘claim for a share’ in the Deuba-led Cabinet triggered the lawyers and even the justices of the apex court to hold protest demonstrations.  Speaking during a sit-in protest on the SC premises on Tuesday, NBA Chairperson Chandeshwar Shrestha Said that civil society members will join the march past and express their solidarity in the movement to ‘purify the judiciary’.  Shrestha also shared that similar programs of protest will be held at 18 high courts across the country on Wednesday afternoon.  On the occasion, senior advocate Chandra Kanta Gyawali condemned the police brutality against the agitating lawyers on the court premises.
