TIKAPUR, Jan 17: Despite numerous efforts of Tikapur Municipality to build settlements with earthquake-resilient houses, the people in the municipality are found constructing their houses breaching the standard and rules set by the municipality and the government.

Building Civic Capacity Of People

Democracy rests on building civic capacities-- cognitive, practical and participatory-- of people so that they believe that their behaviour affects the course of governance. The nation-wide election for local self-governance slated for May 13 in Nepal is the right time to build their capacity for correct reasoning, choice and activities especially because many political parties in the fray seek to pull them in various directions and offer scintillating promises, even something unjust, as a vote-catching strategy, not democracy promoting mobilisation and positive action at the grassroots level. The more the people feel that they are well heard and attended to by candidates, the better they become active in political life and acquire knowledge of selecting representative authority for self-governance.

Indigenous people's role to consolidate nationality: Province Chief Gurung

GANDAKI, August 10: Chief of Gandaki Province, Prithvi Man Gurung, said the indigenous community could play an important role on consolidation of nationality. Giving a message of best wishes on the occasion of the 27th International Day of the Indigenous People yesterday, Province Chief Gurung reminded that the indigenous community in Nepal had played vital role on nation building. "This community has huge significance in terms of keeping ethnic harmony intact and strengthening nationality. Nepal's constitution 2015 has guaranteed multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-cultural and multi-lingual specificities of the country for the equitable and just representation of the indigenous communities in each State body." Time has come for all to protect the salient features of the constitution as federalism, republic, secularism and inclusive and proportional representation and make indigenous people feel the ownership of the State. In 1994, the UN General Assembly had announced the International Day of the World Indigenous People.

All Nepalis will be vaccinated by year end: PM Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has declared that all Nepalis will be vaccinated by the end of this year. Inaugurating the new surgical building of Bir Hospital in Kathmandu, Prime Minister Oli has maintained that majority of Nepalis will be vaccinated against COVID-19 by the end of 2021. “People should not worry about the availability of vaccines against the coronavirus,” said PM Oli.
