Govt to start listing of sugarcane farmers to end delay in their payment by sugar mills
KATHMANDU, March 19: The government is all set to start listing the sugarcane farmers to resolve the problem of the farmers who struggle almost every year to receive payment for their products sold to the sugar mills.
Amid complaints that most sugar mills in the country have not paid sugarcane farmers on time, the Everest Sugar Mill, in Ramnagar, Mahottari district, has paid the increased amount of sugarcane purchased this year.
The government grant for the sugarcane farmers who last year sold sugarcane for the sugar mills operating in Sarlahi district has been deposited in the District Treasury Comptroller Office.
NMB bank is providing easy loans for sugarcane farmers of the Madhes province. The band had previously given loans to over 156 sugarcane farmers cooperating with Reliance and Himal sugar mills to take in their yields.
At a time when sugarcane farmers are waiting for sugar mills to buy their produce, sugar mills in Nepal are said to be importing sugarcane illegally from India by leaving Nepali farmers high and dry.

NAWALPARASI, March 7: Sugarcane farmers of Nawalparasi are still waiting for their payments worth Rs 190 million from two sugar mills in the region. The government and sugar industrialists had signed an agreement to pay all the remaining payment to sugarcane farmers within January 21.
