KATHMANDU: The government has proposed India's Yoga Guru Ramdev to become Nepal’s tourism ambassador.
Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Prem Bahadur Ale, on Sunday, urged the Yoga Guru to become the tourism goodwill ambassador of Nepal.
Addressing a yoga camp organized by the Ministry at the Pashupatinath area today, Minister Ale requested Yoga Guru Ramdev to be Nepal's goodwill tourism ambassador.
In response, Yoga Guru Ramdev said Nepal is the unmatched tourism destination throughout the world and it was a matter of pride for him to become the tourism ambassador.
"I will formally accept the Government of Nepal's request to become a tourism ambassador at an appropriate time. It is a matter of dignity to become a goodwill ambassador," he added.
On the occasion, Minister Ale took the Yoga Guru and Acharya Balakrishna for paying homage to Pashupatinath.
Minister Ale also felicitated Yoga Guru Ramdev and Acharya Balakrishna on behalf of the Ministry.
Former Minister of State for Finance Lhyarkyal Lama, founding president of NRNA Dr Upendra Mahato, office-bearers of the Pashupati Area Development Trust, Ministry high officials and hundreds of yoga practitioners were present in the yoga camp.
Immediately after the yoga camp, Yoga Guru Ramdev and Acharya Balakrishna left for New Delhi, India on a regular flight of the Nepal Airlines Corporation. They arrived in Nepal on Thursday.

KATHMANDU, August 31: The Sri Lankan Airlines is launching a direct flight from Kathmandu to Sri Lanka from today. Spokesperson at Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), Raj Kumar Chhetri, informed that Sri Lankan Airlines was allowed for the Kathmandu-Sri Lanka flight twice a week.
He further said the airlines had applied for the aviation permit for the summer season till September 4. The company would also apply for further flight permission by observing the situation, he added.
It has shown interest to conduct flight at the Gautam Buddha International Airport which is under construction in Bhairahawa.
Official travel agency in Nepal, Jenith Travels, said the flight was being launched, considering the Nepalis visiting Sri Lanka. It may boost tourism in Nepal when the pandemic subsides.
Currently, the Sri Lankan Airlines is conducting flights in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Maldives and Dubai. It has also planned to expand its service to Japan, Australia and London, the Travels added.
