Agitating sugarcane farmers of Sarlahi district suspended their protest on Thursday. A meeting of the Sugarcane Farmers’ Joint Struggle Committee on Thursday decided to suspend their district-centered protest and move to Kathmandu to exert pressure on the government.
Sugarcane farmers of Sarlahi district staged a protest in Harion on Friday after the government did not provide them with subsidies for sugarcane even during the festival of Dashain.
The agitating farmers had called off their protest last year following an assurance from the government that the delinquent mills would pay them within 21 days.
