Afghan Kabul airport to be ready for int'l flights soon: official

KABUL, Sept. 13: The Kabul International Airport will soon be ready for international flights as efforts are underway to remove technical problems, airport director Abdul Hadi Hamadani said Monday. "The domestic flights have already begun and the international flights would begin soon and efforts are underway to remove the remaining 10 to 15 percent technical problems at the airport," Hamadani said in a video clip as quoted by local media. He made the remarks after the landing of a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane at the Kabul airport and its taking off on Monday. The Kabul airport were damaged with its many facilities destroyed during the withdrawal of the last U.S.-led forces and American nationals on Aug. 31, according to him. Hamadani also confirmed that the airport has received planes carrying humanitarian assistances from Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Pakistan, adding that similar flights from Russia and Turkey are expected to arrive in the coming days.

Limited number of international flights

In further modification to the urgent notice issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) on May 31, the government has decided to allow limited number of scheduled flights to China, Qatar, Turkey, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan for designated airline of respective countries with conformance of specified health safety protocols.

Govt to resume flights to countries with large number of Nepali workers

KATHMANDU, June 17:The government is to resume flights to the countries with large number of Nepali migrant workers. A meeting of COVID-19 Crisis Management Committee chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli held on Wednesday late night at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar decided to resume flights to Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Japan and Malaysia.  The meeting also took the decision to resume flights in a way that not more than 2,000 passengers arrive from these countries in a week.  CCMC’s this decision would come into implementation once cabinet approves it.  Spokesperson of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Taranath Adhikari, said that the decision recommended by the CCMC would come into implementation once the Ministry receive it in a written form after cabinet approves it.  Similarly, the meeting also decided to provide financial assistance to those Nepali migrant workers who could not afford for hotel quarantine upon their return to Nepal  due to various reasons.  The government would make arrangement of the expenses of hotel quarantine of 10 days, out of 15 days.

Govt lifts suspension of int’l flights to and from six countries

KATHMANDU, June 17: The government has decided to lift the suspension of the international flights to and from six different countries which are the major labor destinations for the Nepali migrant workers.  A meeting of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Committee (CCMC) Directive Committee, held on Wednesday evening, decided to resume flights to and from Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Japan and Malaysia.  With the recent decision, the flights will be operated in such a way that no more than 2,000 passengers be airlifted in a week.  The meeting, presided by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, also decided to provide specific amount to those migrant laborers who have returned from abroad but can not stay at quarantine facilities at hotels due to various reasons. With this, the government will manage the expenses of 10 out of 15 days of those workers.

Flights to China, Qatar and Turkey unlikely to reopen until next week

Although the government has decided to reopen scheduled flights to China, Qatar and Turkey along with the ongoing flights to India, the flights are unlikely for the next few days.
