KATHMANDU, May 3: As the final showdown of the local level is at our door steps, candidates are busy in their election campaign.  Keshav Sthapit, CPN-UML’s candidate for the post of Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s (KMC) mayor,  and Srijana Singh, Nepali Congress’s candidate for the same post, were witnessed promoting their election campaigns in Kathmandu on Tuesday. These two candidates have been viewed as the top two competitors for the post along with some independent candidates. Here are some pictures taken by Ratopati photojournalist:

EC fines KMC, Ward 16 chair

KATHMANDU, Nov 6: The Election Commission (EC) has slapped Mukunda Rijal, chairperson of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) ward 16, with a fine of Rs 5,000, on the charge of violating the election code of conduct.

Newly elected mayor, deputy mayor of KMC assume office

KATHMANDU, May 30: Balen Shah who was recently elected to the post of mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) took an oath of office and secrecy and assumed his office on Monday. Chief Election Commissioner Raju Kathiwada administered an oath of office and secretary to Shah amid an event at the National Assembly Hall in Kathmandu. Similarly, newly elected deputy mayor Sunita Dangol, ward chairpersons and other members were also sworn in on the same day.

KATHMANDU, May 30: Newly elected mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), Balen Shah took an oath of office and secrecy on Monday. Chief Election Commissioner Raju Kathiwada administered an oath of office and secretary to Shah amid an event at the National Assembly Hall in Kathmandu.  Along with Shah, newly elected deputy mayor Sunita Dangol, ward chairpersons and other members were also sworn in.

Vote count in four local levels underway, yet to begin in one

Vote count in Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC), Garuda and Phatywa Bijayapur Municipalities in Rautahat district and Triyuga Municipality in Udayapur district is ongoing, according to the Election Commission.

UPDATE KMC Mayor Race: Balen Shah maintains lead, Singh overtakes Sthapit

KATHMANDU, May 20: At the time when the Balen Shah, independent mayoral candidate for Kathmandu metropolis, has been leading the vote count, Srijana Singh, mayoral candidate of Nepali Congress has over taken Keshav Sthapit of CPN-UML for the second position. As per the latest data revealed by the Election Commission, Balen Shah has collected 32,978 votes maintaining his lead. His nearest contender, Srijana Singh has garnered 17,702 votes followed by Keshav Sthapit with 17,678 votes. Sunita Dangol, deputy mayoral candidate of UML garnered 31,111 votes maintaining a lead of 21,000 votes. Dangol is leading the race for deputy mayor with 32,615 votes while her nearest contender Rameshwar Shrestha of CPN (Unified Socialist) has collected 11,273 votes.

UPDATE KMC Mayor Race: Balen Shah’s vote surpasses 30,000 mark

KATHMANDU, May 20: Balen Shah, independent mayoral candidate for Kathmandu metropolis, is currently leading the vote count with more than 30,000 votes as of early Saturday morning.  As per the latest data revealed by the Election Commission, Shah has secured 31,145 votes. His nearest contender Keshav Sthapit of CPN-UML garnered 16,918 votes followed by Srijana Singh of Nepali Congress with 16,562 votes.  Sunita Dangol, deputy mayoral candidate of UML garnered 31,111 votes followed by Rameshwar Shrestha of CPN (Unified Socialist) with 10,673 votes.

KATHMANDU, May 20: Balen Shah, independent mayoral candidate for Kathmandu metropolis, is currently leading the vote count. As per the latest data revealed by the Election Commission, Shah has secured 27,134 votes which is 12,571 votes more than his nearest contender. Keshav Sthapit of CPN-UML is in second position with 14,563 votes followed by Srijana Singh of Nepali Congress with 14,074 votes.  Sunita Dangol, deputy mayoral candidate of UML garnered 26,852 votes followed by Rameshwar Shrestha of CPN (Unified Socialist) with 9,316 votes.

KATHMANDU, May 2: The Election Commission (EC) sought a clarification from Keshav Sthapit, the CPN-UML’s candidate for the post of mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) on Monday.  According to Yagya Bhattari, assistant secretary of the Department of Law and Political Party under the EC, the poll body has sought clarification from Sthapit regarding his remarks about women. “Sthapit has been asked to submit his clarification within 24 hours,” Bhattari further added. UML candidate Sthapit has been drawn into conspiracy regarding his remark when a female participant in an event raised a question linked with the ‘Me Too’ movement.
