KATHMANDU, June 29: Asar 15 (the 15th day in the third month in the Nepali calendar) is marked as the Ropain Diwas or Dhan Diwas (National Rice Plantation Day or National Paddy Day) annually. This day farmers plant saplings in the field and it is often marked as the beginning paddy transplanting season. People play in mud, play musical instruments, sing folk songs and treat themselves with curd and beaten rice. 18th National Paddy Day being observed today (with photos)

KATHMANDU, June 29: Nepal is celebrating 18th National  Paddy Day on Tuesday.  This year, National Paddy Day, which is marked on Asar 15,  is being observed  with the theme of “Growth in paddy production: Food security, self-reliance and prosperity.”  Meanwhile, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Basang Kumar Nembag planted paddy saplings on the premises of the Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC) in Khumlatar to mark the formal celebration of the day.  27.12 percent plantation over  According to the ministry, 27.12 percent of the total paddy plantation has taken place across the country as of Tuesday.  Of the 1.3 million hectares of the land, in which paddy is cultivated, 371 thousand hectares of land so far has been planted with paddy as the Paddy Day is being observed.  See the photos taken on Tuesday afternoon.
