Tokyo Olympics: New national record for Nepal

TOKYO, July 24: Nepali shooting athlete Kalpana Pariyar has set a new national record in the 32nd Summer Olympics ongoing in Japan's Tokyo. In the competition held in women's 10-meter air rifle earlier on Saturday, Pariyar made a new record with 616.8 points. She had collected 102.2, 105.4, 101.0, 104.1, 103.4 and 100.7 respectively in first to six series. Pariyar had held the record with 614.5 points in the 13th South Asian Games held in Nepal. Among the 50 athletes, Pariyar stood in the 46th position, and could not qualify for the second round. Associated with Nepal Army's Tribhuvan Army Club, Pariyar had received a wild card entry for the Tokyo Olympics. Gaurika Singh and Alex Shah in swimming, Saraswati Chaudhary in Athletics and Sonioa Bhatta in Judo are among those competing in the Olympics representing Nepal.

Tokyo Olympics concludes; 33rd edition to take place in Paris

KATHMANDU, August 9: The 32nd Olympics Events underway in Japan's capital Tokyo officially concluded. With this, the 33rd edition of the Olympics Games would be held in Paris, the capital of France. The Tokyo Olympics that was planned for 2020 was deferred by a year due to global pandemic of coronavirus. Japan has successfully accomplished the 32nd Summer Olympics Events amidst coronavirus outbreak. There was no permission for the audience to present at stadium in the Tokyo Olympics due to menace of coronavirus. As many as 11,300 Olympians from 205 countries had taken part in the Tokyo edition. The players had competed for 340 gold medals, 338 silver and 402 bronze medals in total 33 sports events. Nepali Olympians Gaurika Singh and Alex Shah had hoisted Nepali flag in the inaugural session of the Olympics. Some 93 countries have clinched medals in the Olympics while 112 countries including Nepal remained medal less. Only 65 countries won gold medals in the Tokyo Olympics. The US remained the highest gold medal winners (39) while China secured second position with 38. The host country, Japan, remained the third winner with 27 gold medals. India is the only South Asian countries to win a gold medal, two silver and four bronze. The Tokyo Olympics that kicked off on July 23 had held for 19 days. Japan had hosted the Olympics Games after 57 years.

TOKYO, July 30: Nepal's sprinter, Saraswoti Chaudhary, has been knocked out of the first round of the 100 metres dash of the 32nd Summer Olympics underway in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. Chaudhary could not demonstrate notable performance in the 100 metres women's race held some time ago. She clocked 12.91 seconds. She came in the eighth position in her group of nine athletes. She could not improve on her earlier timing as well. Before this, she had finished the 100 metres dash in 12.55 seconds. Nepal's participation in the Tokyo Olympics has wrapped up with Chaudhary's appearance in the event. Five athletes from Nepal had been competing in four games in the Tokyo Olympics. They are Kalpana Pariyar in shooting, Sonia Bhatta in judo, and Alex Shah and Gaurika Singh in swimming. All four athletes have been knocked out of the competitions. Pariyar competed in the 10 metres air rifle, Bhatta in 48 Kg weight category in judo, and Shah and Singh in the 100 metres free-style swimming event. Shah and Singh set new national record in swimming while Pariyar broke her previous national record and set a new record in shooting.

KATHMANDU, July 23: The 32nd Summer Olympics is going to be formally inaugurated today. The Olympics would be inaugurated at 4:45 Nepal time amidst a special programme to be organised in Tokyo, the capital of Japan. Though the Olympics is going to be formally inaugurated today, some matches have already been organised from Wednesday. Athletes, coaches and sports officials have already reached Tokyo to participate in the Olympics. Similarly, 23-member Nepali team, including five athletes and four coaches, has already reached Tokyo. Swimmers-- Gaurika Singh and Alex Shah would carry the national flag in the march-past during the inaugural event. Though it was scheduled to hold the Summer Olympics in 2020, it was delayed by one year due to COVID-19 pandemic. The matches are going to be held without spectators. Out of five Nepali athletes participating in the Olympics, Kalpana Pariyar of Shooting would compete on Saturday morning. Pariyar would compete in the women 10-metre air rifle shooting event. The match would start 5:15 am Nepal time on Saturday.
