Anti-MCC parties to continue staging protest on Sunday

KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Various political parties and sister organizations have been staging protests against the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC) in the capital. Series of protests have erupted in the capital following the government’s decision to table the MCC in parliament for ratification. The ruling alliance has been largely divided regarding the issue.  So far, the main opposition party, CPN-UML has not maintained any position regarding the compact. The protesters are scheduled to hold a protest rally from Maitigar to New Baneshwar and picket the federal parliament building.

Ruling alliance member CPN (US) to stage nationwide protest against MCC

KATHMANDU, Feb 10: CPN (Unified Socialist),  a member of the ruling alliance, has decided to stage a nationwide protest against the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC). The party has decided to stage a nationwide protest on Falgun 1 (February 13). The party is scheduled to stage a protest in all 77 districts of the country at 2 PM on February. The party’s decision came at the time when the Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba led government was preparing to ratify the MCC through parliament. The government has already summoned a meeting of the lower house of parliament on February 3.

KATHMANDU, Feb 9: As many as eight political parties jointly staged a protest against the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC) in Kathmandu on Wednesday. The political parties staging the protests include a coalition member of the ruling coalition, the Rastriya Janamorch Party, among others. The protesters marched from Maitigar to Singadurbar with placards and banners witten ‘No MCC’. The protest was held at the time when Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is likely to ratify the compact through parliament.

KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party led by Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplab’ staged a protest demonstration against Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact in the capital on Monday afternoon.  The cadres of the party staged the protest rally against the ‘controversial’ compact in Teku, Tripureshwor, Lainchaur and Babar Mahal areas. The participants chanted slogans and held placards against the compact.  The rally was converted into a mass assembly at Khula Manch where key leaders of the party addressed.  Here are some photos taken on Monday afternoon.

Alliance of 22 parties to stage protest against MCC on Wednesday

KATHMANDU, September 6: Stating that the government has begun preparations to endorse the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC) of the United States of America (USA), an alliance of 22 parties have announced to stage a protest on September 8. Amid a conference on Sunday, the alliance of 22 parties announced to stage a protest at Maitigar Mandala in Kathmandu on Wednesday. The protest rally which will begin from Maitigar will get converted into a mass gathering at New Baneshwar. The alliance has also urged one and all to participate in the protest. The alliance is scheduled to stage protests against MCC in all 77 districts of the country.

10 staging protest against MCC in front of US Embassy arrested

As many as ten persons staging a protest against Millenium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in front of the Embassy of the United States of America in Kathmandu have been arrested.
