KATHMANDU: Three persons died and 24 others were injured in a bus-truck collision at Nawalpur along the East-West Highway this morning.
A bus (SuPra 2-001) en route to Mahendranagar from Kakadbhitta collided with a truck (Na6Kha 7126) at Gaindakot-10 of Nawalpur.
Deputy Superintendent of Police in Nawalpur, Dilip Kumar Giri, informed that three passengers died on the spot while the bus slid 10 meters down the road after it collided with the truck. The dead ones are two women and a man. Further identity of the dead ones is yet to be ascertained.
There were 26 passengers including the bus driver. Three of the injured are in critical condition. Similarly, the truck driver also got injured in the accident.
The injured ones have been taken to New Medical College, Bharatpur for treatment, according to DSP Giri.

KAWASWATI, September 2: Two-way traffic has resumed along the East-West Highway that was obstructed after the monsoon-induced flood took away a diversion in Gaindakot Municipality-23 of Nawalpur.
The highway that was disrupted since last Thursday has come into operation after seven days. The road traffic had come to a halt when a diversion constructed in course of the East-West Highway widening drive was taken away by a flood.
Though continuous efforts were made to bring back the highway to complete operation it was not materialized due to muddy surface with incessant rain.
Two way traffic has come to resumption through the newly-constructed diversion after the rainfall stops. Information Officer of District Traffic Police Office Padam Badu informed that the highway operation has resumed since Wednesday evening after carrying out necessary maintenance.
KAWASOTI, August 27: The vehicular movement along the East-West Highway in Nawalparasi East has been completed disrupted as a diversion near 23 Smriti in was swept away following a torrential rain.
Information Officer of District Police Office Madhusudan Singh said that the highway is fully disrupted since 9:00 last night.
The flood caused due to torrential rain has washed away the diversion developed in course of Narayanghat-Butwal road widening campaign.
Singh said that they were facing hardships to immediately resume the vehicular movement as rain has not stopped and the diversion was fully damaged.
Similarly, vehicular movement along the diversions at Gaindakot, Thumsi and Bhedabari has even become difficult.
Furthermore, a landslip has occurred in Daunne area of the highway. A team of police personnel has been mobilised to clear the debris in Daunne.
According to police, different areas including Kawasoti, Gaidakot, Devchuli, Madhayabindu, Hupsekot and others in Nawalpur are inundated following the torrential rain.
Information Officer Singh said that details of the losses caused due to flood, landslide and inundation have not arrived.
