KATHMANDU: The number of deaths in the Salyan Bus Accident has reached 11.
A passenger bus (Ra 1 Kha 2552), bound to Tulsipur, Dang from Jaypani, Salyan, skidded some 200 meters off the road at Kapurkot-5, Salyan on Sunday morning at around 11.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Govinda Thapa, Saylan Police Chief said that eight passengers died on the spot while others breathed their last while undergoing treatment.
As many as 23 passengers have been injured during the accident. Seriously injured passengers are being airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment, according to police.
DSP Thapa added that rescue of the injured ones is underway.
Police said that overspeeding and dilapidated road conditions could be the reasons behind the accident.
The driver of the vehicle has rmeained absconding soon after the accident.
Most of those traveling on the bus were reportedly returning to their homes after observing Bhai Tika festival.
