KATHMANDU, May 19: Thirteen international flights were made at Tribhuvan International Airport today alone.
According to the Airport Office, 13 flights including rescue flights of different airlines, medical and air bubble were determined.
As per the data provided by the Airport, highest seven flights of Nepal Airlines Corporation have been determined while four have been determined for Himalaya Airlines.
Nepal Airlines is scheduled to make one flight each to Beijing and Shenzhen of China, two to Damam and one to Riyadh of Saudi Arabia. There will be a regular flight to New Delhi of India.
Similarly, Himalaya Airlines would make three flights to Kunming of China and one to Dammam. Sichuwan Air is bringing cargo to Kathmandu from Chengdu while Kathmandu-Delhi chartered flight has been made.
Ten flights of helicopters and airlines would be operated towards domestic sector. Rescue, chartered and cargo flights have been made towards domestic and international sectors during the prohibitory period.
The government has suspended international flights from May 6 in order prevent and control Covid-19 pandemic.
Similarly, domestic flights have been suspended from April 29.
KATHAMNDU, May 12: The government has extended the duration of suspension of international flights from Tribhuvan International Airport, country’s sole international airport, till May 31.
The Nepal Civil Aviation Authority (CAAN) issued a notice today to inform all airlines companies about the extension of suspension of international flights by more two weeks.
However, the Nepal - India flights to take place under the Air Travel Bubble Agreement is to be continued.
Earlier, the government had decided to suspend the international flights from the mid-night of May 6 till May 14 bearing in mind the soaring cases of Covid-19. However, a limited number of cargo and rescue flights towards domestic and international services are taking place from TIA.
The suspension of flights followed the decision to implement the prohibitory order in several parts of the country including the Kathmandu Valley since April 29 to contain the spread of the virus. The prohibitory period has further been extended till May 27. According to TIA Office, the airport Tuesday handled six international flights: three cargo flights, two chartered and one air ambulance service. The Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) was among those contributing to the Tuesday international flights as its wide-body aircraft landed at TIA carrying the first batch medical assistance which majorly includes oxygen gas cylinders provided by China to fight the pandemic.
The TIA office said that four cargo, one travel bubble and one training flight have been scheduled from TIA today.
Domestic flights at Tribhuvan International Airport have been affected for the past four days due to bad weather condition, said the airport office. However, international flights have been operating smoothly.
Some number of domestic flights to their destinations like from TIA to Pokhara, Janakpur and Simara has been affected as a result of low visibility due to dense smog, including in the the Kathmandu Valley, said General Manager at the airport Pratap Babu Tiwari. But, night flights have been operating.
As per the data shared by Tribhuvan International Airport, out of 112 domestic flights of different airlines scheduled on Wednesday, only 95 flights took place.Twelve flights were cancelled and five were merged. A total 9,824 people travelled by
these flights.
Similarly, out of 118 domestic flights scheduled for Tuesday, only 88 flights were made. Likewise, 30 flights were cancelled on Monday. A total of 122 flights were scheduled on the same day where only 91 took place.
Although the weather remained hazy for three days, the sky in Kathmandu is comparatively clear today.
TIA general manager Tiwari said the visibility is also good in the absence of thick haze and the flights were operating regularly.
According to him, flights are operating regularly from airports across the country, except from Pokhara. Flights could not be operated to and from Pokhara since the last three days and this has caused inconvenience to the passengers.
Light rainfall forecast
There is partial influence of local wind and the westerly wind in the country at present, in addition to the influence of the low atmospheric low pressure system that has developed south of Nepal, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, Meteorological Forecasting Division said.
The weather is partly cloudy in the hilly region of the country today. There is haze in some places as well.
It is partly to generally cloudy in the hilly region and partly cloudy in the rest of the country. There are chances of light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in few places of the hilly region in Province 1 and at one or two places of the hilly region of the rest of the provinces towards the afternoon.
Kathmandu Valley recorded minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius and maximum 28.8 degrees Celsius today, the Division said.
