Maoist Center finalizes ministers’ name; Poudel, Shrestha and Gahatraj to join Deuba govt

KATHMANDU: CPN (Maoist Center), one of the coalition partners, has finaled the names of the ministers to join the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led Cabinet.  A Standing Committee meeting held on Wednesday decided that Devendra Poudel, Shashi Shrestha and Maheshwo Gahatraj will join the Cabinet as ministers and Modh Maya Yadav as the minister of state.  In the seven-member Deuba Caibent at present, there are two ministers from the party --- Janardan Sharma as the Finance Minister and Pampha Bhusal as the Energy Minister.

KATHMANDU, Aug 6: The Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government has finalized common policies and programs.  A seven-member task force including the leaders of ruling parties --- Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) --- has set the priorities of the incumbent government. Corona control has been recognized as the foremost priority of the government including constitution amendment, administrative reforms and socio-economic agendas.  Earlier, the  task force formed to prepare a common minimum program for the operation of the government handed over its report to Nepali Congress president and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday.  The taskforce report was also submitted to CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal  Dahal Prachanda', Janata Samajbadi Party Chair Upendra Yadav and Rsatriya Janamorcha Chair Chitra Bahadur KC today itself.  According to member secretary of the task force Keshav Raj Joshi, the task force has enlisted issues of tackling COVID-19 pandemic, promotion of national interest, implementation of federalism, strengthening of federal democratic system, managing relief package to natural disaster hit people, ensuring of good governance, completion of peace process, economic policy and programme, balanced foreign policy among others to be addressed by the government.  Joshi also shared that the task force has suggested some measures to make the alliance stronger and long-lasting along with the code of conduct for ministers.  According to him, a10-point work procedure was also developed regarding the operation of the government.  Receiving the report, PM Deuba said that the report would be made public after proper study at senior leaders’ level.  The task force is led by Nepali Congress general secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka.   The members of the task force include NC leaders Minendra Rijal and Ramesh Lekhak, Maoist Centre leaders Dev Gurung and Barshaman Pun, JSP leaders Rajendra Shrestha and Mahendra Ray Yadav. UML’s Nepal faction not to join Deuba govt immediately

KATHMANDU, July 20: A faction of the CPN-UML led by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, which voted in favor of Prime MInister Sher Bahadur Deuba during the latter’s trust motion on Sunday, said that it would not join the new government anytime soon.  This comes at a time when Prime MInister Deuba is preparing to expand his five-member Cabinet after he won the confidence motion on Sunday, earlier this week.  During his meeting with CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, leadr Nepal said that he would help the alliance formulae common programs in order to run the government.  On the occasion, Nepal, however, told Prachanda that their  faction could not join the government immediately.  Prachanda and Upendra Yadav, Chairman of JSP visited Nepal on Tuesday morning to discuss the expansion of the Deuba-led Cabinet.  Meanwhile, Prachanda and PM Deuba also reached an agreement to run the government based on a list of common programs. The two leaders held a discussion at the official residence of the prime minister in Baluwatar on Tuesday itself.
