KATHMANDU, March 8: Complaints have been filed against 56 youtube channels in the past one year, according to the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police.
In recent years, online fraud and cyber crimes have skyrocketed in the country, according to the Police.
“Youtubers are usually accused of defamation, libel and misuse of the right to privacy.”
According to the Cyber Bureau, four complaints of cyber crimes were filed in fiscal year 2075/76. The number increased to 8 in fiscal year 2076/77 and 56 in fiscal year 2077/78.
Likewise, complaints of crime using facebook have also surged in this period. As many as 343 complaints of cyber crime using Facebook were registered in the fiscal year 2075/76. The number surged to 2,250 in fiscal year 2076/77 and 3,451 in the fiscal year 2077/78.
Majority of the victims of cyber crimes in Nepal are minors and women.
