Rain, snowfall forecasted

KATHMANDU Dec 3:  The country's weather pattern has witnessed the westerly trough and low pressure system formed in the Arab sea. As a result, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at a few places in Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, Lumbini Province, Karnali Province and Sudur Pashchim Province today, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division of Department of Hydrology and Meteorology. Likewise, the Division has forecasted chances of heavy snowfall at many places of the high mountainous region. The sky of the Kathmandu Valley is cloudy from early morning today and the minimum temperature of the valley has been recorded 10 degree Celsius today. Likewise, the weather is forecasted to remain generally to mostly cloudy in Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, Lumbini Province and Karnali Province and partly to generally cloudy in rest of the Provinces tonight. "Light rain is likely to occur at a few places in Bagmati Province, Gandaki Province, Lumbini Province and Karnali Province," the Division said.

Humla's Simikot airport inaccessible due to heavy snowfall

HUMLA, Jan 9: Humla, a mountainous district, has received heavy snowfall since Friday evening. Simkot, the district headquarters of Humla, has been largely hit by heavy  snowfall. Human mobility has been completely disrupted.  The temperature has dropped drastically below minus 12 degrees Celsius. Chapal Lama, a local of Tumkot, shared that up to four feet of snow has accumulated  in Malimi, Muchul and other areas of Namkha Municipality.  As a result, even the drinking water and the river water have frozen.  Usually busy with people, Simkot is now deserted due to extreme cold and snow. Assistant Chief District Officer Dasharath Rai shared that daily life has been largely hit by the snowfall and cold.
