China-Nepal border free of dispute since 1960s: China

KATHMANDU: A couple of days after the Nepal government formed a committee to study the problems related to the border area from Limi Lapcha to Hilsa in Namkha Rural municipality in Humla, the Chinese Embassy in Nepal has said that the  China-Nepal border has since been free of dispute since the two countries settled their border issue through friendly consultations as early as in the 1960s.  Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Government Spokesperson Gyanendra Bahadur Karki shared that the joint secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs will preside the committee while the representatives of the Department of Survey, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and border experts will also be the part of the committee. Releasing a statement on Friday, Wang Xiaolong, spokesperson for the embassy said that they have taken note of the relevant report.  Stating that China and Nepal have always respected each other’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, the embassy claimed that some individual forces earlier tried to hype up the China-Nepal border dispute.  Read the statement below:  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal has issued a statement to clarify this. Over the years, China and Nepal have actively promoted border management, port construction and operation, and cross-border cooperation with remarkable results, which has effectively served the development of the two countries and enhanced the well-being of the two peoples. The people in border areas have maintained friendly exchanges. The Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region of China has kept providing support and convenience for transportation and material procurement to the northern part of Nepal including Humla district and humanitarian assistance for their fight against disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and pandemics. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the signing of the Boundary Treaty between China and Nepal. China is willing to continue to strengthen cooperation with Nepal on border-related affairs on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, and jointly construct trans-Himalayan multi-dimensional connectivity network so as to build the China-Nepal border into a link and bridge for the development and cooperation between the two countries.
