Upendra Yadav elected JSP parliamentary party leader

KATHMANDU, July 31: Upendra Yadav has been elected the parliamentary party leader of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP).  Yadav was elected unopposed during a parliamentary party meeting of JSP held on Saturday afternoon.  Yadav was proposed by party’s Federal Council Chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai and  seconded by party leader Mahendra Ray Yadav.  The parliamentary party meeting was attended by 20 members of the House of Representatives (HoR) and two members of the National Assembly (NA) from the party.

JSP Chair Yadav summons EC meeting as legitimacy row is over

KATHMANDU, July 27: Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has called an Executive Committee meeting for 2 PM on Tuesday afternoon.  The first meeting of the party, after the erstwhile Upendra Yadav faction was granted legitimacy, is being held at its Balkumari-based office. The meeting will be presided over by Chairman Yadav.  Party Chair Yadav said that Tuesday’s meeting will dwell upon various issues ranging from and restructuring the party to expansion of party organization and election of parliamentary party leader. The meeting will also discuss the party’s participation in the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led coalition government.  The Election Commission, on Monday, granted the legitimacy of the party to the Upendra Yadav faction. Hearing over the petitions filed by both the factions – one close to Yadav and the other to Mahantha Thakur–, the full bench comprising chief commissioner and commissioners of the poll body asked the Thakur faction to come up with a new name and get registered.  The election body conducted ‘head count’ of the Executive Committee members earlier on Monday afternoon and verified their signatures to ensure whether the majority of members support either of the factions.  Thirty four of the 51-member strong committee extended their support to the Yadav faction while 16 others signed to support Thakur. We’ll join Deuba-govt soon: JSP Chair Yadav

KATHMANDU, July 26: Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chair Upendra Yadav said that they would soon be joining the government led by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba.   Stating that he had the support of a majority of executive members, Yadav said the party would be part of the incumbent government.  Talking to media persons in brief at the EC premises after verifying the signatures he said that the party would consider remaining members if they get back to it with self-review.   Rajendra Mahato, the parliamentary party leader of the JSP Thakur faction said the party which was united a year ago for the liberation of the suppressed and exploited people got split today and it was unfortunate.  He promised to move ahead by taking up the ownership of the agenda of Madhesh and the rights of Madheshi people.

JSP executive committee meet put off; Yadav, Bhattarai unhappy

KATHMANDU, May 21: An executive committee meeting of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) summoned for May 22-23 has been postponed. Issuing a press statement today, party chair Mahantha Thakur has announced the postponement of the meeting until a further notice. 'Growing crisis of COVID-19 pandemic’ has been cited as the reason for putting off the meeting.  However, party another chair Upendra Yadav and Federal Council Chair Dr Baburam Bhattarai’s faction has expressed concern over the 'unilateral'adjournment of the meeting.  Prior to this, both party chairs were agreed to initiate the process to form a new government under the party leadership and if not possible, to stay in opposition.  The executive committee meeting was called on the agreement of two chairs.  Meanwhile, a meeting between the alliance close to Thakur and the senior leader Rajendra Mahato’s group is underway in Singha Durbar.  Yadav and Dr Bhattarai were said to be not informed about the meeting.  The Thakur-Mahato alliance has already elected Mahato as the parliamentary party leader and is claiming that it has a majority support of party lawmakers.
