Six parties decide to picket parliament building during House session as protest against MCC

KATHMANDU, December 8: Six political parties and two other groups decided to picket the federal parliament building during the upcoming House session summoned by President Bidya Devi Bhandari. Earlier, President Bhandari summoned a meeting of both the lower and upper house for 2 PM on December 14 on the recommendation of the government. The parties have decided to picket the federal parliament building as a protest against the Millennium Corporate Challenge (MCC), according to Hari Krishna Gajurel, a central committee member of CPN (Revolutionary) Maoist. The parties have further decided to picket the MMC office on December 13 and hold a protest from Maitigar to Baneshwar the next day. It has been assumed that the government may decide on ratification of the MCC. These six political parties include the Mohan Baidya-led CPN (Revolutionary) Maoist and Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal among others.

Major blaze rips through South Africa parliament building

A large fire is raging at the Houses of Parliament in the South African city of Cape Town. Video footage shows a plume of black smoke filling the sky, with huge flames coming out from the roof of the building. Dozens of firefighters are at the site battling the blaze; it is not yet clear what caused the fire.
