POKHARA, June 18: Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel, Chief Minister of Gandaki Province has secured a vote of confidence from the Gandaki Province Assembly.
CM Pokharel received a total of 31 votes in his favor while 27 other members cast their votes against him during the voting on the confidence motion tabled by him on Friday. He was appointed the chief minister on June 12 in accordance with Article 168 (5) and was required to obtain the confidence votes within 30 days of the date of his appointment as per Article 168 (6).
Fifteen members of the Nepali Congress (NC), 11 of the CPN (Maoist Center) two each of the Rastriya Janamorcha and the Janata Samajbadi Party and an independent lawmaker extended their confidence toward CM Pokharel.
KATHMANDU, May 9: Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Prithvi Subba Gurung has resigned from his post.
CM Gurung submitted his resignation letter to the governor of the province on Sunday.
Gurung’s resignation comes a day before a vote of no-confidence motion registered against him is scheduled to be settled on Monday.
Province Chief Sita Kumari Poudel approved the resignation tendered by CM Gurung as per Article 169 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal.
Meanwhile, Governor Poudel has also called the political parties representing in the province assembly for the formation of a new government within three days.
