UK to remove restrictions for the vaccinated from Feb 11

The UK said it has removed all COVID-19 restrictions for fully vaccinated travelers arriving in the UK from next month.

UK records nearly 50,000 new COVID-19 cases

LONDON, Oct. 19 : Another 49,156 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, marking the largest daily rise since lockdown rules ended in England three months ago, according to official figures released Monday. For the sixth consecutive day, more than 40,000 new cases have been reported in Britain, where the accumulative number of cases has risen to 8,497,868. The coronavirus-related death toll in the country rose by 45 to a total of 138,629. These figures only include the deaths of people who died within 28 days of their first positive test. There are currently 7,097 patients in hospital with COVID-19. The latest data came as Downing Street acknowledged that winter would be "challenging" when questioned about rising coronavirus infections. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's official spokesperson said Downing Street was keeping a "very close watch" on the latest statistics, but suggested case rates, hospitalizations and deaths were "still broadly in line with" government modeling as set out a few months back now. "The vaccination program will continue to be our first line of defense, along with new treatments, testing and public health advice," said the spokesperson. More than 85 percent of people aged 12 and over in Britain have had their first vaccine dose, and over 78 percent have received both, the latest figures showed.

UK removes Nepal from red list

LONDON, October 8: The Government of UK has removed 47 countries and territories including Nepal from its red list, which was in place earlier due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Issuing a notice on Thursday, the Government of UK stated that the provision will come into effect from October 11. With the new provision, passengers returning to England from Nepal will no longer be required to enter hotel quarantine, it is said. Likewise, eligible travellers vaccinated in over 37 new countries and territories will also be treated the same as returning fully vaccinated UK residents, so long as they have not visited a red list country or territory in the 10 days before arriving in England. The Government of UK has also stated that proof of vaccination of four vaccines (Oxford-AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna and Janssen and Janssen) will be recognised from those 37 countries and territories. Passengers travelling to the UK from Nepal should submit the proof of vaccination.

UK to offer booster COVID-19 vaccines to over-50s from next week

Booster COVID-19 jabs will be offered to people aged 50 and over, those in care homes, and frontline health and social care workers, the British government announced Tuesday.

FNJ UK Chapter provides fellowship to journalists

LONDON, July 23: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) UK Chapter raised fund to provide fellowship to journalists affected from the COVID-19 pandemic.  The UK Chapter of FNJ said that it collected Rs 516,000 to assist altogether 25 journalists from across the country. It is said that each journalist will be provided with Rs 20,000 in fellowship.  The fellowship amount would be given away to the awarded journalists through the FNJ central committee. As decided, the amount has already been deposited to the bank account of the FNJ central committee. A meeting of the FNJ UK Chapter held in the second week of last June had decided to assist the journalists suffering in the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tamu Society UK provides Rs 1.125 million in aid of COVID-19 patients

LONDON, June 11: The Tamu Society UK has provided Rs 1.125 million in support of the COVID-19 affected people in Nepal. The philanthropic organisation supported the National Innovation Centre set up by Mahabir Pun. It provided Rs 525 thousand to the Centre.  Likewise, the Society has supported Rs 300 thousand each to the foundation set up by media person Rabi Lamichhane and the organisation founded by health worker and writer Radha Poudel, said Chitra Gurung, the founding president of the Society. This amount was collected by the Society through its fund raising campaign.  The Society had also donated PPEs worth 1,000 Pound Sterling to a government hospital in London after the outbreak of the pandemic. It also distributed PPEs to the elderly Nepali population living in Britain and helped the Nepali students as well as distributed food stuff to some 300 Nepalis losing job due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the Tanahu Society UK has provided more than Rs 808 thousand 640 to the COVID-19 Crisis Management Mega Campaign initiated by the Tanahu Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Nepal.  The Chamber has already distributed health materials worth one million to the local levels, hospitals and security personnel in Tanahu district in the fight against the pandemic.
