KATHMANDU, Aug 6: The Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government has finalized common policies and programs. A seven-member task force including the leaders of ruling parties --- Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) --- has set the priorities of the incumbent government. Corona control has been recognized as the foremost priority of the government including constitution amendment, administrative reforms and socio-economic agendas. Earlier, the task force formed to prepare a common minimum program for the operation of the government handed over its report to Nepali Congress president and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Friday. The taskforce report was also submitted to CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda', Janata Samajbadi Party Chair Upendra Yadav and Rsatriya Janamorcha Chair Chitra Bahadur KC today itself. According to member secretary of the task force Keshav Raj Joshi, the task force has enlisted issues of tackling COVID-19 pandemic, promotion of national interest, implementation of federalism, strengthening of federal democratic system, managing relief package to natural disaster hit people, ensuring of good governance, completion of peace process, economic policy and programme, balanced foreign policy among others to be addressed by the government. Joshi also shared that the task force has suggested some measures to make the alliance stronger and long-lasting along with the code of conduct for ministers. According to him, a10-point work procedure was also developed regarding the operation of the government. Receiving the report, PM Deuba said that the report would be made public after proper study at senior leaders’ level. The task force is led by Nepali Congress general secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka. The members of the task force include NC leaders Minendra Rijal and Ramesh Lekhak, Maoist Centre leaders Dev Gurung and Barshaman Pun, JSP leaders Rajendra Shrestha and Mahendra Ray Yadav. We’ll join Deuba-govt soon: JSP Chair Yadav

KATHMANDU, July 26: Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Chair Upendra Yadav said that they would soon be joining the government led by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba. Stating that he had the support of a majority of executive members, Yadav said the party would be part of the incumbent government. Talking to media persons in brief at the EC premises after verifying the signatures he said that the party would consider remaining members if they get back to it with self-review. Rajendra Mahato, the parliamentary party leader of the JSP Thakur faction said the party which was united a year ago for the liberation of the suppressed and exploited people got split today and it was unfortunate. He promised to move ahead by taking up the ownership of the agenda of Madhesh and the rights of Madheshi people.

UML’s Nepal faction not to join Deuba govt immediately

KATHMANDU, July 20: A faction of the CPN-UML led by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, which voted in favor of Prime MInister Sher Bahadur Deuba during the latter’s trust motion on Sunday, said that it would not join the new government anytime soon. This comes at a time when Prime MInister Deuba is preparing to expand his five-member Cabinet after he won the confidence motion on Sunday, earlier this week. During his meeting with CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, leadr Nepal said that he would help the alliance formulae common programs in order to run the government. On the occasion, Nepal, however, told Prachanda that their faction could not join the government immediately. Prachanda and Upendra Yadav, Chairman of JSP visited Nepal on Tuesday morning to discuss the expansion of the Deuba-led Cabinet. Meanwhile, Prachanda and PM Deuba also reached an agreement to run the government based on a list of common programs. The two leaders held a discussion at the official residence of the prime minister in Baluwatar on Tuesday itself.

UML task force dissolved, lawmakers instructed to stand against Deuba govt

KATHMANDU, July 16: The CPN-UML has dissolved a ten-member task force, which was formed to 'sort out differences in the party'. A Standing Committee meeting held on Friday afternoon took the decision in this regard, said Pradeep Gyawali, spokesperson for the party. The task force, formed on May 16, comprised Bhim Rawal, Ghanashyam Bhusal, Surendra Pandey, Raghuji Pant and Gorkarna Bista from the senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal side while Subash Chandra Nemang, Bishnu Poudel, Pradeep Gyawali, Shankar Pokharel and Bishnu Rimal represented Chairman KP Sharma Oli faction. Meanwhile, the party also instructed all its lawmakers to stand against the recently formed government led by Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba. The meeting also appreciated the outgoing KP Sharma Oli-led government for its 'historical' performances.

Upendra Yadav’s ‘wait and see’ strategy before joining Deuba govt

KATHMANDU, July 14: Despite its prior decision to join the newly formed Sher Bahadur Deuba government, the Upendra Yadav faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) is adopting a ‘wait and see’ strategy mainly due to two reasons – the case being heard at the Election Commission (EC) and other legal procedures. A meeting of the faction’s executive committee held on Tuesday decided to join the Deuba government, however it remained silent when it is going to be a part of the government which has been formed as a result of the supreme court’s Monday’s order. Who will lead the party in the government? The party leaders are at odds on who will lead the party in the Deuba Cabinet. Most leaders and cadres are of the view that party Chairman Upendra Yadav should not lead the party when it joins the government. No proposal was tabled at Tuesday's meeting in this regard. When disputes began to surface in the JSP, Yadav said that he would not join any government. “I’ll rather run party organization. Friends will join the government.” However, sources close to Yadav revealed that Yadav is in mood to lead the party in the Deuba government this time as well. He is aspiring to take over deputy prime minister and foreign minister. Party split over the issue of joining government The erstwhile Madhesi People’s Rights Forum was split over the dispute who would lead the party while joining the Madhav Kumar Nepal government in 2009. A key leader of the party, Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar joined the government, leaving the party vertically split. Later on, another leader JP Gupta also split the party over the dispute over who would lead the party in the Baburam Bhattarai-led government in 2011. Meanwhile, the JSP, which was formed as a result of merger deal between the Federal Socialist Party and Rastriya Janata Party, is also on the verge of split following the dispute over whether or not to extend support to the KP Oli government following the dissolution of House of Representatives (HoR) on May 22, earlier this year.
