UML Chair Oli attends public event without recovering from COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Jan 27: Chairman of CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli recently attended a public event when he was still infected with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). A youth association considered close to Chairman Oli organized a blood donation program at Bhaktapur on Wednesday.  Oli had undergone a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test on Saturday. The report that came out on Sunday showed that Oli is still infected with the disease. Mahesh Basnet, In-charge of the Youth Association Nepal  and a member of parliament, claimed that Oli attended the program to encourage the youths for blood donation maintaining proper social distance measures. However, the pictures taken at the event tell a different story. Participants are seen defying the social distancing measures largely.

Amid political uncertainty and surging COVID-19 cases, HoR meeting tomorrow

KATHMANDU, Jan 29: Amid the political uncertainty and the surging COVID-19 cases, a meeting of the House of Representatives is summoned for Sunday. The meeting is scheduled to be held at 1 PM tomorrow. The meetings scheduled earlier on different dates were postponed due to the general conventions of major political parties and the COVID-19 worsening COVID-19 situation. The meeting has been summoned at the time when the major political parties are seen divided on conducting the local level election, the CPN-UML, the main opposition party, has been obstructing the House proceedings and the country has been completely hit by the third wave of COVID-19.

UML Chair Oli contracts COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: KP Sharma Oli, chairman of the main opposition party, CPN-UML has tested positive for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Oli had undergone Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests after experiencing symptoms similar to that of COVID-19 on Saturday.  “I have learned that Chairman Oli has contracted COVID-19,” Pradip Kumar Gwayali, deputy general secretary of the party told Ratopati. “The party might provide the detailed information shortly,” he added. Chairman Oli is currently in home isolation at his residence in Balkot.

PM Deuba seeks collective efforts to tackle COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Jan 15: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged one and all to put joint efforts to combat the recent wave of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country.  After receiving a memorandum handed over by the main opposition CPN-UML on Saturday, PM Deuba said that a collective endeavor is required to beat the third wave of infectious disease.  UML delegation headed by Vice-chair Subash Chandra Nembang handed over the memorandum regarding prevention and treatment against the deadly disease.

UML’s Gen Secy Pokharel contracts COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Shankar Pokharel, the general secretary of CPN-UML, the main opposition party, has tested positive for COVID-19. Secretary Pokharel has maintained that he was not able to keep himself away from the third wave of COVID-19 that the country is currently battling with. "I will be staying in isolation for the next few days," Pokharel wrote on his Facebook page.

PM Deuba isolates after Maoist Chair Prachanda contracts COVID-19

KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has kept him isolated after CPN (Maoist Center) tested positive for the COVID-19.  According to PM Deuba’s secretariat, he [Deuba] has remained isolated at his official residence in Baluwatar since Saturday afternoon.   Prachanda, who participated in a high-level coordination mechanism a couple of days ago along with PM Deuba, contracted the virus during Friday’s test.  A secretariat member told Ratopati that he [Deuba] decided to isolate himself as per the COVID-19 protocols. Deuba also held a meeting with CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli on Saturday morning.

KATHMANDU, August 20: CPN (UML) Karnali Province Committee has urged all to keep the party intact and united on the basis of 10-point agreement.  A committee of the party held in Surkhet today urged all leaders and cadres to be united for the further strength of the party.   The province committee chair Gorakha Bahadur Bogatai, releasing the meeting decisions today, further urged the government to adopt effective measures to control COVID-19 pandemic and ensure vaccines to targeted groups.
