KATHMANDU, October 29: The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) is to be barred from participating in three upcoming elections if it fails to conduct its 14th General Convention by mid-December, 2021.
At the time when the National Assembly election for 19 seats and elections of Central and Provincial level for 22 seats are due to be held soon, NC is now compelled to conduct its 14th General Election by mid-December in order to participate in these elections. And, in this regard, NC has introduced a new schedule for the General Convention.
NC is now scheduled to hold its 14th General Election from December 10 to 12 later this year. The party is yet to hold its ward conventions in 13 districts including Saptari, Siraha, Sarlahi, Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Surkhet, Dolpa, Kailali, Rasuwa and Banke.
According to Ekraj Pokharel, NC’s Election Committee member, NC is scheduled to hold its Municipal Convention on November 16 and Province Assembly Regional Convention on November 19 and District Convention on November 26.
As per the Article 271 of the Constitution of Nepal, political parties are obliged to get registered in the Election Commission before elections. Currently, as many as 96 political parties are registered at the poll body.
