Government to Relocate Genuine Squatters from Kathmandu Riverbanks

Kathmandu. As part of its campaign to remove unauthorized settlements along the capital's riverbanks, the government is set to relocate identified 'genuine' squatters to five different locations on an interim basis.Alongside the drive to clear government land in the Thapathali, Gairigaun, and Manohara areas, the government has proposed alternative housing in Nagarjun (Ichangu), Kirtipur, Bode, Kharipati, and Chandbag for landless individuals who possess no property elsewhere.Prime Minister's Press Expert Deepa Dahal stated that a digital profile has been created to distinguish between 'genuine' and 'fake' squatters, as studies revealed that many residents in these settlements own property elsewhere.
