Kathmandu. World Mosquito Day is being observed in Nepal today with various programs organized under the slogan 'Small Bite, Big Challenge'. This day is celebrated to prevent diseases caused by mosquito bites and to spread public awareness about them.Diseases such as malaria, dengue, chikungunya, kala-azar, scrub typhus, filariasis, and Japanese encephalitis are caused by mosquito bites. It has been confirmed that 168 species of mosquitoes have been found in Nepal so far.According to the Ministry of Health and Population, Department of Health Services, about 18,710 people were affected by these diseases in Nepal in the last fiscal year.
