Dhaka. For the first time in 35 years, a competitive presidential election is being held in Bangladesh. Members of Parliament will vote in the Parliament building on Thursday to elect the country's 23rd president. The candidate of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and the candidate of the 11-party alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, retired Colonel Oli Ahmed, are competing.
