China Closes Tatopani Border Crossing Indefinitely Due to Flood and Landslide Risks

Kathmandu. China has closed the Tatopani border crossing, a major trade route with Nepal, indefinitely citing increased risks of floods and landslides.  This closure comes at a time when a devastating flood in the Bhote Koshi River has already destroyed Timure Bazaar, the customs office, and the immigration office at the other main crossing, Rasuwagadhi. Lakshmi Niroula, the Consul General of Nepal in Lhasa, stated that the Chinese side is unlikely to resume trade activities until the landslide risk in the Liping area stabilizes.
