Over 2.14 bln doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered in China
BEIJING, Sept. 12 : More than 2.14 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered in China as of Saturday, data from the National Health Commission showed Sunday.
KATHMANDU: An aircraft of the Sichuan Airways arriving from China carrying a shipment of Vero Cell vaccines failed to land at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Monday morning due to adverse weather conditions.
The airplane returned to China with the medical supplies given to Nepal under the COVAX facility. The supplies incorporating 121,887 doses of vaccines are assisted by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Similarly, 1,870,500 doses of vaccines will be arriving from India on Monday itself.
So far Nepal has imported 35,466,980 doses of COVID-19 vaccines and 21,654,109 vaccines have been administered.
BEIJING, August 13: More than 777 million people in China had completed COVID-19 vaccination by Thursday, a health official said Friday.
Over 1.83 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines had been administered in China as of Thursday, said Mi Feng, spokesperson for the National Health Commission, at a press conference.
KATHMANDU, July 16: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi has paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Ambassador Yanqi visited PM Deuba at the latter's official residence in Baluwatar, Kathmandu on Friday afternoon.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Yanqi assured that China will continue its support to Nepal in its fight against COVID-19 pandemic including much needed vaccines against the deadly disease.
On the occasion, she also conveyed PM Deuba the recent decision of the Chinese Government to provide Nepal with additional 1.6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the grant assistance.
PM Deuba, in response, thanked the Chinese Government for the vaccine support and expressed hope that China will enhance its support to Nepal for both COVID-19 response and recovery.
KATHMANDU, July 8: An aircraft of the Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) is flying to China today to bring COVID-19 vaccines namely, Vero Cell purchased by Nepal from the Chinese Government. The aircraft (wide-body A330) will take off to China three times until July 23 to ship all quantities of the vaccines procured from China through government-to-government (G2G) channels, said Dr Krishna Prasad Poudel, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population.
The first shipment will arrive on July 9. Likewise, the aircraft will fly on July 15 for second lot and arrive on July 16. Again, it will take off on July 22 and bring the third shipment on July 23. “The consignment is large. However, its exact amount is not known,” he said. The vaccines were manufactured by Sinopharm Company in China.
People aged below 60 would be prioritised for the inoculations, he said.
So far, the country has received 4,248,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines. It aims to vaccinate 22 million people above 18 against the infection. So far, 851,300 people have received the second dose and 2,611,807 people the first dose.
KATHMANDU, June 1: A consignment of 800,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine, which were donated by China, arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the vaccines and the similar number of syringes were airlifted from Beijing to Kathmandu by a chartered flight of Nepal Airlines Corporation which were received by the officials of the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). The remaining 200,000 doses of the vaccine, of the total of one million doses as announced by Chinese President Xi Jingping grant assistance on May 26, during a telephone conversation with his Nepali counterpart Bidya Devi Bhandari, are being provided to Nepal by the Government of the Tibet Autonomous Region of China, MoFA added.
Accordingly, 50,400 doses of the vaccine and syringes were handed over to the officials of the Health Ministry on Tuesday morning, Similarly, another batch of 50,400 vaccines and syringes is scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu on Tuesday evening. The consignment of remaining 99,200 vaccines and syringes will arrive in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
JAKARTA, April 30: New batches of COVID-19 vaccines produced by Chinese pharmaceutical companies arrived at Indonesia's Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Friday, an Indonesian official said.
"Today, 6 million doses of bulk COVID-19 vaccine from Sinovac Biotech Ltd and 482,400 ready-to-use vaccines from the China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm) have arrived," Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny Plate said.
Indonesia has received a total of 65.5 million doses of bulk COVID-19 vaccine from Sinovac, as well as 8.448 million doses of ready-to-use vaccines from Sinovac, Sinopharm, and AstraZeneca through the COVAX Facility initiated by the World Health Organization.
The bulk from Sinovac that arrived Friday will be brought to the state-company PT Bio Farma office to be processed into ready-to-use vaccines.
Meanwhile, the vaccine produced by Sinopharm will be used for a mutual vaccination scheme locally known as "Gotong Royong", where companies or legal entities can arrange the COVID-19 vaccine rollout for their employees for free to help the country achieve herd immunity faster.
Indonesia's Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) has just issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Sinopharm vaccine.
"We are announcing that an emergency use authorization has been given for a vaccine produced by the Beijing Biological Products Institute under Sinopharm," chief of BPOM Penny Lukito said Friday.
