UML leader Pashupati Chaulagain dies of Covid-19

A member of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly representing the ruling CPN-UML has died of Covid-19 on Tuesday.

CPN (UML) delegates all powers to Chair Oli

KATHMANDU, May 13: The CPN (UML) has delegated all the authority to take necessary decisions regarding the party to party Chairperson and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. CPN (UML) Standing Committee that met at the Prime Minister's residence at Baluwatar today has delegated to the party Chair Oli the right to take the required decision in the context of the new situation that has unfolded within the party and the national politics, party spokesman Pradeep Kumar Gyawali informed through a press release today.  According to the party spokesman, the meeting of the Standing Committee has decided to lift the suspension from the party of leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal, Bhim Bahadur Rawal, Ghanashyam Bhusal and Surendra Prasad Pandey. Gyawali said the meeting decided to revoke the action taken against the four party leaders for the purpose of moving ahead by forgetting all the past bitterness in the party for protecting the party unity after reviewing the recent developments within the party.  According to him, necessary steps would be taken keeping the larger interests of the party in mind and talks would be held with the disgruntled side.  "Every one has been called upon to not become a means for the formation of new government by the opposition by pulling down the government led by own party," he said. The meeting has expressed sorrow over the demise of party's central committee member and Bagmati Province Assembly member, Pashupati Chaulagain due to Covid-19. Spokesman Gyawali said the party has lost a decent leader while the Dolakha people a capable people's representative in Chaulagain's death. The meeting also extended condolence to the bereaved family and decided to lower the party flag at half mast for three days to mourn the demise. Likewise, Prime Minister Oli had briefed the meeting about the latest complex situation from pandemic of coronavirus and the steps taken by the government in facing it up. The party spokesman said the meeting suggested to the government to make arrangements for the adequate and regular supply of oxygen cylinders and life-saving medicines including vaccines in an effective manner, to mobilise all the strength of the state for works including expanding the hospital infrastructures and to pursue additional diplomatic initiatives for mobilising the required assistance from friendly countries. He shared that the meeting suggested to the government to use the entire state mechanism for the supply of essential medical supplies including oxygen and to further prepare for containing the Covid-19 pandemic.

The CPN-UML has decided to fly the party flag at halfmast for three days over the demise of Pashupati Chaulagain, a Provincial Assembly member of the party.

34 die of corona virus infection in Bagmati Province in a day

MAKAWANPUR, May 12: Thirty-four people died of corona virus in a day in Bagmati Province.  As per the data released by the Social Development Ministry of the province, a total of 18 people including Bagmati Province Assembly member and CPN (UML) leader, Pashupati Chaulagain, succumbed to corona virus in a day in Kathmandu alone.  Similarly, four died of corona virus in Lalitpur, three in Bhaktapur, two each in Dolakha and Sindhuli, one each in Rasuwa, Ramechhap and Sindhupalchowk, according to the Ministry. With this, number of people died of corona virus has reached 1,653 in Bagmati province, shared Spokesperson of the Social Development Ministry, Dr Purushottam Sedhai. A total of 4,655 new coronavirus cases was confirmed in Bagmati Province in past 24 hours. Of them, 2,788 in Kathmandu, 602 in Lalitpur, 537 in Bhaktapur, one in Rasuwa, 73 in Nuwakot, 115 in Dhading, 124 in Chitwan, 47 in Sindhuli, 116 in Makawanpur, 24 in Ramechhap, 15 in Dolakha, 155 in Kavre and 58 in Sindhupalchowk. There are 53,375 active corona virus cases in the Province. A total of 2,481 are in institutional isolations, 378 in high-dependency unit of different hospitals, 698 in ICU and 220 on ventilator while 49,598 are on home isolation, added the Ministry.

Party has lost decent, sincere leader in Chaulagain's demise - PM

KATHMANDU, May 12: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed sorrow over the demise of Bagmati Province Assembly member and CPN (UML) central committee member Pashupati Chaulagain. Issuing a statement today, PM Oli, who is also the UML Chair, has extended tribute to the late Chaulagain and condolences to the grief-stricken family, relatives and well-wishers at this hour of sorrow. He stated that the party has lost a good and honest leader while the people of Dolakha district have been bereaved of a sincere people's representative with Chaulagain's death. "The party will always remember Chaulagain's contribution to the democratic, progressive movement and to the campaign of building a prosperous nation under the UML's leadership," PM Oli said in the statement. Prime Minister Oli also recalled that Chaulagain, who had cultivated an image of a gentle, polite and affable leader, played the role of a people's representative dedicated to the service of the people. Chaulagain passed away due to COVID-19 on Tuesday. He was a Member of Parliament, the member of the Constituent Assembly and the president of the Democratic National Youth Association Nepal as well.

CPN(UML) leader Chaulagain passes away, Minister Gurung pays tribute

KATHMANDU, May 12: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Parbat Gurung, has paid last respects to CPN (UML) leader and member of the Bagmati Province Assembly, the late Pashupati Chaulagain. Minister Gurung went to the Manamohan Memorial Hospital this morning and paid his tribute by draping Chaulagain's mortal remains with the national flag. Similarly, the CPN (UML) Disciplinary Commission chair Amrit Kumar Bohara extended final respects by laying the party flag over the late leader's body.  Leader Chaulagain passed away due to COVID-19 on Tuesday night.  He was the CPN (UML) politburo member and was elected the member of the Bagmati Province Assembly from Dolakha 'Kha' constituency. He was elected to the member of House of Representatives in the gneral election of 2056 BS from Dolakha constituency no 1. Chaulagain was also elected the Member of Parliament on the proportional representation quota in the Constituent Assembly election of 2070 BS. He was actively involved in politics from his student days and was a sincere and dedicated leader. CPN (UML) Bagmati Province Organisation president Ananda Prasad Pokharel said the whole nation, not to mention Dolakha district, has suffered an irreparable loss in the demise of leader Chaulagain. Chaulagain's last rites performed  Meanwhile, the last rites of CPN(UML) leader and Bagmati Province Assembly member Chaulagain have been performed at Pashupati Aryaghat. Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa 'Badal', Minister Gurung, leader Pokharel, party office secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang, Bagmati Province Assembly member Rachana Khadka, among theparty leaders and cadres, were at the Aryaghat to pay their final respects to Chaulagain.
