CSI committee reconstituted, to bring new book about Itahari

ITAHARI, September 13: Civil Society Itahari (CSI), an umbrella grouping of non-political civilians of Itahari, has reformed its committee under the Chair of Raju KC, a noted public intellectual of the young city of Province 1. An 18-member committee under his leadership has been constituted for which Balika Bhattarai is Senior Vice- Chair, Vice-Chair duo are RK Rai and Dhrona Bahadur Nyaupane. Likewise, Secretary General is Bholakaji Basnet and Secretary and Joint-Secretary are Ganga Ghimire and Surendra Tamang. Members are Ananta Bista, Sachin Pokhrel, Himal Dahal, Pradeep Kumar Regmi, Laxmi Thebe, Dilli Prashad Bhattarai, Dhankumari GC, Shibabhakta Rajalwat, Urmila Katuwal, Sumit Adhikari and Rajendra Prashad Sharma. This new committee is selected unopposed for the tenure of 2078/79 BS. On Saturday, the concluding day of the two-day-long gathering of the CSI had given final shape to the new committee formed after the tenure of the previous committee led by Santabahadur Dumjan ended this year. Established by Dr. Badribishal Pokhrel in 2062/63 BS during the Second People's Movement, other consecutive chairs include Jagadish Prashad Oli, Rajesh Shrestha, Danial Subba, Bodhraj Nepal and Kamlesh Sharma Poudel. On the inaugural day of the gathering, CSI has unveiled a book titled 'Nagaric Sandesh' which roughly translates as 'Citizen's message'. In the book scalars like poet Manu Manjil, Dr. Ramji Timsina, among others, contributed their articles about the literary and educational sides of Itahari. Other writers have touched down on wide-ranging issues of Itahari. ''We unveiled the book for the creative and collective memory of Itahari not just for today itself but also for the new generation coming to this town in the days ahead'', said Raju KC, also a known musical activist of the Province 1 and a member of the publishing committee, ''We will do more for this new tenure.''

First book on the overall history of 25-year-old city Itahari unveiled

ITAHARI, August 18: An extensive volume on the history of Itahari has been unveiled. The 336-page research book was collectively unveiled on Tuesday by three firsts of Itahari- first minister from Itahari Ramkumar Subba, first mayor and provincial assembly member from Itahari Sarbadhwoj Sanba, first School-operator Debit Subba as well as incumbent mayor Dwariklal Chaudhary and the land donor to the municipality and also the filmmaker Hemnarayan Chaudhary at Durga Party Palace of Itahari. The book was produced by Neplee Media Private Limited with financial support of Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City as well as some local advertisers. Himal Dahal, the compiler and the editor of the book titled 'Itihashmaa Itahari' (loosely translated as Itahari in the History), said the book details about art, music, literature, trade, education, health, sports and other various historical events, incidents and individuals of Itahari. ''This is the first book on the history of Itahari'', said Dahal, ''This can be a good reference as it accommodates more than 525 pictures, maps, sketches and documents and Itahari experiences by more than 125 individuals.'' Meanwhile, in the brief book-unveiling ceremony, three personalities of Itahari namely musician and socialite Raju KC, trade union leader Ramesh Bista and senior journalist Krishna Binod Lamsal were felicitated for their long research works and activism on Itahari. Former federal minister Ram Kumar Subba said the book ushers in a new responsibility for the future of Itahari. Subba urged for updated and upgraded publications of the book even in the years ahead. Itahari's first mayor Sarbadhoj Sanba said the book has included various aspects of Itahari. ''If anything left untouched on the historic parts of Itahari, this needs to be updated in the upcoming editions,'' suggested Sanba. Incumbent mayor of Itahari, Dwariklal Chaudhary thanked the publication team and termed this work as a historic deed. Himal Dahal, the compiler and the editor of the book, said his team worked for five years to come up with this volume. ''I want to thank everybody associated with this work,'' said Dahal, ''Visible errors and mistakes, if found, would be corrected in the future editions. This is not one-off work. This will be a continuous process.'' Itahari is the 25-year-old young city of Province 1. It was declared municipality upgrading from its Village Development Committee (VDC) status on 6 March 1997, only after five years of the restoration of democracy. It was graduated to Sub-Metropolitan City accommodating four VDCs namely Khanar, Pakali, Ekamba and Hansposa on 2 December 2014.
