Newly elected mayor, deputy mayor of KMC assume office

KATHMANDU, May 30: Balen Shah who was recently elected to the post of mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) took an oath of office and secrecy and assumed his office on Monday. Chief Election Commissioner Raju Kathiwada administered an oath of office and secretary to Shah amid an event at the National Assembly Hall in Kathmandu. Similarly, newly elected deputy mayor Sunita Dangol, ward chairpersons and other members were also sworn in on the same day.

Sunil Prajapathi elected mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality

KATHMANDU, May 16: Candidate of Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party for the post of mayor of Bhaktapur Municipality, Sunil Prajapathi, has been re-elected as the mayor of the municipality. Prajapath was elected mayor after garnering 29,200 votes while his nearest contender, Ram Prasad Kasula of Nepali Congress got only 3,667 votes. Likewise, the candidate of the Nepal Workers' and Peasants' Party for the post of deputy mayor Rajani Joshi has also been elected deputy mayor of the municipality. She was elected to the post with 29,695 votes while the candidate of CPN-UML in the second position, Ranjana Kharbuja, collected only 2,724 votes.

Mayor, deputy mayor of Rangeli Municipality join UML

KATHMANDU, March 9: Mayor and deputy mayor of Rangeli Municipality of Morang district joined the main opposition party, CPN-UML, on Wednesday. Amid an event organized in the municipality, Chairman of UML, KP Sharma Oli, welcomed both the mayor, Dilip Kumar Agrawal and deputy mayor Keshav Kumar Khanal to the party. According to Rishikesh Pokhrel, UML Chair of Morang, along with Agrawal and Khanal, as many as 4,710 people joined UML. Earlier, Agrawal and Khanal were elected mayor and deputy mayor representing the CPN (Maoist Center).
