CPN (Unified Socialist) and Democratic Socialist Party now officially registered, Election Commission provides certificates

The Commission has also provided them the certificates as being political parties- CPN (Unified Socialist) as a political party formed separating from CPN (UML) and DSP as a political party formed separating from Janatasamajwadi Party, Nepal.

1,500 people’s representatives of UML join CPN (Unified Socialist)

KATHMANDU, September 28: As many as 1,505 people’s representatives of the main opposition party, CPN (UML) have joined the CPN (Unified Socialist)-led by Madhav Kumar Nepal after the split. Likewise, 921 people’s representatives of Janta Samajbadi Party (JSP) have joined Democratic Socialist Party after the split. Earlier on August 25, the CPN (UNL) split and a new party, CPN (Unified Socialist), was formed under the leadership of Madhav Kumar Nepal. On the same date, JSP also split and Mahantha Thakur formed a new party named Democratic Socialist Party. Introduction of a ‘party-split’ ordinance by the government allowed the political parties to split if only 20 percent members of its central committee or the parliamentary party members were in its favour. After authenticating the new parties, the Election Commission had given a deadline for the UML and JSP lawmakers to join new parties as per their will. (with inputs from Gorkhapatra)

CPN(Unified Socialist),  DSP registered

KATHMANDU, Aug 26: The Election Commission (EC) has recognized the CPN (Unified Socialist) as a new political party. A meeting of the commission awarded the verification certificates to the CPN (Unified Socialist) under the chairmanship of Madhav Kumar  Nepal, on Wednesday.  Meanwhile,  the Democratic Socialist Party (DSP) led by Mahantha Thakur was also registered at the poll body on Wednesday itself.  According to the spokesperson for the commission, Raj Kumar Shrestha, Secretary of the Commission Suresh Adhikari handed over the certificate of party registration to CPN-Unified Socialist leader Rajendra Prasad Pandey and Keshav Jha on behalf of DSP.  After revolting from the CPN- UML, 56 central members and 30 parliamentarians were present in person at the EC to verify themselves in favor of CPN (US).Based on the ordinance on political parties, central committee members and parliamentarians were called for verification from 11:30 AM to 2 PM on Wednesday. Of the 58 names proposed, Bhaskar Kafle and Rabin Koirala, however, could not be verified. Former Prime Minister and senior party leader Jhala Nath Khanal was identified via the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi, India. Likewise, 30 members of the federal parliament also verified themselves in favor of the new party. Though the petitions of MPs Som Prasad Pandey, Mayadevi Gyawali and Sarada Bhatta were not signed, they were also among those who reached the commission for verification. Following the split from the CPN (UML), the support of 41 central members out of the then existing 203 was required to get the new party's recognition. This is the second time that UML has split following 2054 BS over the issue related to the Mahakali treaty. The Commission has also given party recognition to the Democratic Socialist Party Nepal led by leader Mahanta Thakur. Thakur led a group that disassociated themselves from the Janata Samajbadi Party.

14 lawmakers, 17 central committee members authenticate Thakur-led DSP

KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Lawmakers of the federal parliament and central committee members of the newly formed Democratic Socialist Party (DSP), led by Mahantha Thakur, reached the Election Commission and authenticated their support to the party.  A splinter faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) had applied for the registration of DSP. The poll body summoned the CC members and MPs to verify their signatures.  Meanwhile, 14 members of the federal parliament and 17 CC members reached the commission on Wednesday afternoon for verification.  The JSP had 34 lawmakers in the federal parliament including the House of Representatives (HoR) and National Assembly (NA).  With this, the DSP is likely to get the party registration certificate from the election body.  Easing the process for party-split, the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government had introduced an ordinance which allows either 20 percent members of parliamentary party or central committee each to form a new party.  Meanwhile, the lawmakers and central committee members of the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led NCP (Unified Socialist) also reached the poll body on Wednesday itself to authenticate the new party.

KATHMANDU, Aug 20: The Election Commission (EC) has called two new parties --- NCP( Unified Socialist) led by Madhav Kumar Nepal and Mahantha Thakur-led Democratic Socialist Party (DSP)--- for authentication.  A meeting of the poll body, on Friday, asked the two parties for verification on August 25.  The leaders and lawmakers belonging to the proposed political parties are required to attend the poll body and verify their signatures between 11 Am and 2 PM on Wednesday, next week.
