KATHMANDU, May 21: Leaders of the opposition parties have reached the official residence of President Bidya Devi Bhandari to stake claim for the new government formation as per Article 76 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal.
The alliance comprising the main opposition Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center), the Upendra Yadav faction of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) and the ruling CPN-UML’s dissident faction has claimed that as many as 149 lawmakers of the lower house of parliament have the support to the new government. NC Parliamentary Party Leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has been proposed as the new Prime Minister.
Earlier President Bidya Devi Bhandari called upon the lawmakers to stake claim to form a new government as per Article 76 (5) by 5 PM on Friday.
