NBA to resume protest against CJ Rana from Sunday

KATHMANDU, Feb 13: The Nepal Bar Association ( NBA) is resuming the protest against the Chief Justice  (CJ) Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana from Sunday. Prior to this, the NBA had been staging protests virtually owing to COVID-19 transmission. According to Lilamani Poudel, general secretary of the Association, the protest will continue in the physical presence of NBA members everyday beginning from February 13. “The protest will be staged from 11 AM to 12 noon,” he added. For the past 107 days, the NBA has been staging protests at the Supreme Court demanding implementation of Justice Hari Krishna Karki’s Report and resignation of CJ Rana.

KATHMANDU, Jan 25: The Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal (FECOFUN), a formal network of Forest User Groups (FUGs), staged a ‘whistle protest’ at Babarmahal in Kathmandu against the draft of Forest Regulations 2078, Province Forest Act and expansion of conserved forest area and other restrictions imposed by the government. According to the Chairman of the Federation, Bharati Phatak, the government has prepared a draft of Forest Regulations 2078 for the implementation of the Forest Act 2076 excluding the agreements reached between the government and the Community Forest Users Groups and other stakeholders. “The protest will continue for the whole month of Magh ( Mid-February),” Phatak added.

Transportation entrepreneurs hand over vehicle keys to Prime Minister

KATHMANDU, July 25: Transport entrepreneurs have staged a protest demonstration at Maitighar in Kathmandu raising various demands.  As a symbolic protest, they handed over a dummy key of public transport vehicles to the Prime Minister through the Chief District Officer, on Sunday. Some of their demands  include the administration of COVID-19 vaccines to transport staff, adjustment of fares including that of taxis, inclusion of their demands in the monetary policy, extension of the deadline for operation of 20-year-old vehicles, exemption on vehicle insurance and implementation of road act.  See the photos taken on Sunday afternoon.

Transport entrepreneurs take to streets, block road with vehicles (with photos)

KATHMANDU, July 22: The Central Federation of Public Transport, Nepal staged a demonstration on Thursday drawing  the attention of the government to address their seven-point demand.   During the protest, the transport entrepreneurs blocked the road parking their vehicles along the streets in Kathmandu.  Some of their demands  include the administration of COVID-19 vaccines to transport staff, adjustment of fares including that of taxis, inclusion of their demands in the monetary policy, extension of the deadline for operation of 20-year-old vehicles, exemption on vehicle insurance and implementation of road act.  Meanwhile, taxi entrepreneurs also  took to streets demanding fare hikes.
