Lumbini CM Pokharel resigns

BUTWAL, Aug 11: Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Shankar Pokharel has resigned from his post.  CM Pokharel, who was scheduled to face a no-confidence motion in a Special Session of the provincial assembly meeting, reached the Office of Province Chief Amik Sherchan and submitted his resignation letter on Wednesday.  Baijnath Chaudhary, spokesperson for the Lumbini Province Government, confirmed Pokharel’s resignation.

No-confidence motion filed against Lumbini CM Pokharel

BUTWAL, Aug 3: A no-confidence motion has been registered against Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Shankar Pokharel.  As many as 34 members of the provincial assembly signed in the no-confidence motion filed as per Article 188 (4) of the Constitution of Nepal on Tuesday afternoon. The opposition alliance, which comprises Nepali Congress (NC), CPN (Maoist Center) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) has proposed Maoist Center’s parliamentary party leader Kul Prasad KC as the new chief minister.

No-confidence motion registered against Lumbini CM Pokharel

KATHMANDU, May 9: Opposition parties including the Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN (Maoist Center) have registered no-confidence motion against chief minister of Lumbini Province, Shankar Pokharel for the second time on Sunday. Fakharudin Khan, whip of Nepali Congress in the province told Ratopati  that as many as 40 lawmakers of the 79-member province assembly have signed the motion, which was registered at the province assembly secretariat on Sunday itself. Similarly, Maoist lawmaker Kul Prasad KC has been proposed as the new CM to replace Pokharel.  He also shared that they are preparing to go to the governor of the province to ask the latter to call a special session of the province assembly in order to decide on the motion.  The Nepali Congress and the CPN (Maoist Center) had filed a no-confidence motion against Pokharel earlier on April 19. Pokharel, however, stepped down from the post of chief minister as a no confidence motion registered against him was scheduled to be tabled and discussed at the special session of Lumbini Province Assembly.  However, hours after his resignation from the position of the chief minister, Governor of Lumbini Province, Dharmanath Yadav re-appointed him for the same position on May 2.

Pokharel sworn in as Lumbini CM amid protests

BUTWAL, May 2: Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Shankar Pokharel took an oath of office of secrecy on Sunday evening.  Hours after his resignation from the position of the chief minister, Governor of Lumbini Proince, Dharmanath Yadav re-appointed for the same position on Sunday afternoon  Pokharel’s swearing ceremony was held at the Office of Chief Minister amid a tight security despite the protests from the opposition parties. Dharmanath Yadav, Governor of the province reached the CM’s office to administer the oath of office and secrecy to Pokharel .  Shortly after being re-sworn as the chief minister, Pokharel fomed a four-member Cabinet. Province assembly members Santosh Pandey, Bijaya Bahadur Yadav, Baijanath Chaudhary and Hari Riaj were appointed ministers. Governor Yadav appointed them as the ministers at CM Pokharel’s recommendation.  Pokharel had earlier stepped down from the post of chief minister as a no confidence motion registered against him was scheduled to be tabled and discussed at the special session of Lumbini Province Assembly.

Shankar Pokharel re-appointed as Lumbini CM

BUTWAL, May 2: Shankar Pokharel, who had tendered his resignation from the post of chief minister earlier on Sunday morning,  has been re-appointed as the chief minister of Lumbini Province. Dharmanath Yadav, Governor of the province, appointed him on Sunday afternoon as per Article 168 (1) of Constitution of Nepal.  Pokharel had submitted signatures of majority of assembly members to form a new government formation under his leadership, according to a statement  issued by the Office of Province Chief.

BUTWAL, May 2:Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, Shankar Pokharel has resigned from his post a day before the voting on no-confidence motion registered against him.  Pokharel tendered his resignation to Dharmanath Yadav, Governor of the province, which Yadav approved on Sunday itself.  The no-confidence motion filed against Pokharel was scheduled to be tabled at the Lumbini Province Assembly on Sunday and settled on Monday.  Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Center) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) had filed a no-confidence motion against Pokharel on April 19. As many as 41 lawmakers signed in the motion registered at the Parliament Secretariat.   Maoist lawmaker Kul Prasad KC was proposed as the new CM.  CM Pokharel required 43 votes to survive the motion in the assembly with 87 members.
